RE: Week 5 Power Rankings - Arrowhead - 09-28-2014 10:31 AM

I have this so far:

1) Georgia Southern - nice win against App and relatively easy schedule remaining. Look the most polished of all teams I've seen. Depth down the stretch is their biggest threat.

2) stAte - Have yet to play an SBC game and I haven't seen play yet, but Championship runs through Jonesboro.

3) Texas St. - Nice win against Tulsa, but don't think Tulsa is too good. Still Texas St. looks pretty tough.

4) ULM - Cardiac Kids showed flashes of brilliance in the 1st quarter and then we took our foot off the gas and let a wounded animal back their way out of a corner. Lucky to survive against Troy. Losing both CB's to injury for several weeks changes this D and will probably get first loss in Jonesboro. Still I'll take 3-1 and 2-0 in conference any day.

5) USA - Nice win over Idaho, but big loss against GS. However, we are still learning about both teams.

The rest are anyone's guess:

6) Georgia St. - Not sure why placing here, but feel they are getting much better.

7) Idaho - Still think will win some games this year.

8) NMSU - Bad loss to LSU. Not nearly as close as ULM - LSU.

9) ULL - Till you show something still in the cellar. Could rise quickly though.

10) App St. - Has not transitioned nearly as well as GS. Still a great add.

11) Troy - Showed signs of life and that they can still compete in conference. Will win some games this year. Much respect from this Warhawk, but you are winless so have to put you here.

It was a tough call for me but ULM is 2-0 in the conference and if they beat stAte they will be the the team to beat for the conference crown. If they lose to stAte then I think stAte is the team to beat. GS is also in the mix but I am taking a wait and see approach for now.

I don't think I can state enough how big a loss Pipkins and Caldwell are at CB for ULM. They will both be back, but until then we are in trouble. astAte will probably light us up through the air this week. Luckily we only have 1 conference game, then Kentucky and a bye week before Texas St. We can have them back by then. Problem is I think we have a conference loss before we get them back.

I would most definitely have ULL in the mix, as well.

I am also taking a wait and see approach for ULL to be a contender. They have been less than stellar so far but they have the talent to be in the mix.

This is where I see it after this week.

1) Louisiana Monroe - Off this week
2) Georgia Southern - First year in the SBC and already have two conference wins in the barn
3) New Mexico State - No shame in losing to LSU
4) South Alabama - took care of business against Idaho
5) Arkansas State - resting up for ULM
6) Texas State - Rocked the (Golden) Hurricane in OT
7) Appalachian State - Came up flat against Georgia Southern
8) Louisiana Lafayette - resting up for Georgia State
9) Georgia State - healing up after rough loss against Washington
10) Idaho - did not have the moves like the Jaguars
11) Troy - came up short against the Warhawks

I like that viewpoint, cadet. good idea to compare against preseason rankings.

Though, Power Rankings are not really about rankings... It is just a reflection of how people are doing... RIGHT NOW.

RE: Week 5 Power Rankings - CatMom - 09-28-2014 01:02 PM

So you're all basing the rankings on SBC play now? How is that fair to a team that hasn't even played a conference game yet?

RE: Week 5 Power Rankings - GSU Eagles - 09-28-2014 01:09 PM

1. GSU
2. ArK St
3. TX St
4. USA
5. ULL
6. ULM
7. App St
8. NMSU
9. Troy
10. Idaho
11. GaSt

RE: Week 5 Power Rankings - eagle9098 - 09-28-2014 01:21 PM

Which team throws the ball a lot in the SB? I have seen USA but they dropped several passes. Reason I ask is because I think that is GS weakness. We still have a bunch of players who have practiced against option style football and whos athletes have a hard time mimicking a pass style offense. This may be where a team has success against GS.

I truly don't think we deserve to be first, but fair enough.

No, if we haven't played a conference game, we shouldn't be ranked at all if it's based on said only conference games; instead of all games played.

RE: Week 5 Power Rankings - TheRevSWT - 09-28-2014 02:50 PM

These are power rankings!

They aren't who is the best team over the season! They aren't intended to be projected order of finish!

It is simply who played the best this past week.
