GA State article on Troys AD - Atlanta Trojan - 06-01-2014 02:33 PM

http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/georgia-state-sports/2014/jun/01/troy-ad-calls-gsu-job-intriguing/

Who is this writer? He's an idiot! First he insults us by wondering when he would finally get to Troy in alabama. Then attributes our facility to Hartwell when ALL of our current facilities were here before him or planned before him.

You and I interpreted this article very differently. I didn't read anything that would strike me as insulting, and in his defense, he did say present and past athletic directors, which is not really attributing everything to Hartwell. Troy, Alabama is a long boring drive through miles and miles of farmland no matter what direction you come from.

This is the same writer that blamed their basketball loss at Troy on the lighting in the arena.

Hartwell is the right man for the job and we better do all we can to keep him.

Maybe so.

If the present and past athletic directors at Troy can accomplish this, I wondered what he could do in business-rich Atlanta and at Georgia State, whose majority of facilities are among the worst in the Sun Belt.

Saying that statement in bold makes me believe they think that since he brought great facilities to a small town university then he can do it in a big city university. But he hasnt done anything for us at all facilities wise. he hasnt been here long enough to do so. He only pushed already planned facilities forward if anything.

The guy is just a really uninformed writer.

Dont get me wrong hartwell has been GREAT to us. But to say he brought any facilities to Troy is not correct. He has been good at getting big names on the schedule and getting the Trojan Warriors program a kick start and many other things im sure. But facilities isnt really one of them. Yet.

He might take the job or he might not. Could be a way to get more money out of Troy. I think he makes around 230k but im not sure on that number.

I didn't see anything overly negative other than accusing Troy of being a small town...which it is. If I remember correctly, their Beat writer has never been the sharpest tool in the shed.

Yes, but he kind of makes it out that if Troy can do that in a small town GSU can do it bigger and better in a big city. That's not always true. Troy would have the facilities it has with or without Hartwell.

For Troy to be in such a small town it has a large following. The city more than doubles in size on game days.

Sounds like Hartwell is saying the right things, right now. I think if the GSU AD job is offered to him, he's gone. Too many ties to the school

I don't think it's gonna be as simple as you make it out... GSU has a lot of things they need to work out. Some issues that will be be tougher to over come that were not issues at Troy. Like facilities. We already have them at Troy. It's gonna be about money and it happiness most likely. And last time I looked Hartwell was one of the top 3 paid ADs in the conference.

If it matters any, Cheryl Levick currently makes 280K. Her salary was to increase to 320K by 2017.

Didn't see much wrong with the article. He commends Troy for your facilities that you guys have which I agree are great. At the end of the day he reached out to a guy that has GSU connections. Maybe Hartwell is just posturing for a raise at the end of the day. Or maybe he misses the city who knows.

Time will tell...

Dougie being Doug. Ignore it.

Doug is reaching. This job search will be the closet guarded secret next to the Coke recipe in ATL history. In Damon Evans and Hartwell I think he takes two swings and misses both times big.

This. Honestly, this news generated lots of activity from our fan base. We've had some record setting days for traffic on PantherTalk. I'm sure Doug saw the opportunity to milk that a bit with a couple of names that were easy. Damon Evans has been discussed at length on our message board for over a year now and was an easy followup. Hartwell has been discussed as having something we needed. He seems to do things right. And he's also been discussed at length on our message board.

President Becker has said it's far too early to name prospects in this and he is planning on hiring a search firm to aid in the process. I'm not thinking he has too many people in mind when he's hiring professionals to come in and show him people good for the job. I'll take a wait and see approach.

But she had incentives that could raise her salary to as much as 500k. That's very competitive for the sun belt.

Too lazy to go back and quote but whoever posted it, but re:facilities being done at Troy. That's kind of the point. The Turner Field deal is a legacy building opportunity. If whoever comes in and oversees that successfully they will be at a P5 job soon after.
