Got grass? - DoubleAggie - 05-28-2014 05:13 PM

NMSU doesn't.

Watch the grass go.

RE: Got grass? - The4thOption - 05-28-2014 06:43 PM

That would be crazy on game day.

I'm sure it is a rule that you have to have it for the game right?
(I know you will)
But is there a stipulation on how much you have to have?
Say a few blades of grass and the rest is sand! Can you imagine the impact on the game... Forget the cleats boys..... we going bare foot'n!

I've heard of watering down the field or letting the grass be taller to slow teams down - but this is whole new ball game!

NMSU might be SBC champs!

Epic Mind Blown

Perhaps Colorado could help you guys out?

We are putting inf Synthetic Turf. That is why it looks like a motocross track.

We've had field turf for 7 years and replacing it this year. The field is used for football and women's lacrosse. Not going to bore you with the bid, but here is an image and a link to the bid.

The Raiders share their stadium with the A's and have the big patch of dirt infield.

Could be worse. This was McNeese yesterday.

So are we the only ones with real grass? I know there was a discussion about this a while back and I can't remember who all has turf (but I think it's the majority).

I don't think I've ever seen a field with such poor drainage. Unless a hurricane came through yesterday, there isn't much excuse for that.

There was a lot of fan hesitance on this here.

I prefer the real stuff but I understand the motivations - mostly the ability to increase use without worrying about tearing up the sod.

I'm guessing that up tempo offenses do better on artificial, but don't know.

One of the other motivations was most of road games are on artificial, so there's not as much distraction switching cleats and the like.

Do you have issues with rain? The desert is probably ideal because it rarely gets muddy. But to turf we go.

Think they had tons of rain real fast.
Would think their drainage may have got stopped up with some things washed into it.

Personally love grass fields, but not so many have them anymore.
Would also think up tempo offenses do better on artificial.

I've been there many of times. It's not much better than your typical high school stadium. It has never been renovated. Those A/C seats in the donors building is pretty cool.

What are they going to have mock navy battles like the Romans use to in the Colosseum?

Imagine Al Gore will want to throw out the first football.

They could add some logs and play log football I guess.

We don't really have issues with rain. We get enough to keep the grass healthy as well as irrigate as needed. We have a top notch drainage system in the field that was able to drain the rain from a hurricane while we played a game. The field had no standing puddles while the area past the sidelines was a river.

We had an issue with the grass getting some kind of disease in it several years ago and it didn't recover for a while. We had to avoid painting the endzones that season while it recovered. That was a rare issue though.

I'm not against turf philosophically, but I do like that we have grass.

Might be that yesterday had record rainfall in Lake Charles.

Here's another explanation. I'm just hoping our friends in South Louisiana don't suffer too much damage. The weather system has already caused a lot of problems in southeast Texas and south Louisiana.

This was recently discussed over on the AAC boards the other day. Only a few G5 programs have grass fields. ECU, FAU, UCF, and no GaSo are the only G5 programs with on campus stadium grass fields. BYU also has grass. New Mexico State switching to turf leaves only four (or five, depending on how you consider BYU) programs left with grass.
