USA Today finally did a write up on Appalachian State.
High point: Beating Georgia Southern on Oct. 26. The win will echo into 2014 as the two FCS rivals battle for positioning in the Sun Belt.

Appalachian State led the FCS in average attendance in each of the last seven seasons. Last fall, the Mountaineers averaged 24,894 fans for its six home games. The highest average during this span was in 2010, when ASU hosted an average of 29,449 per game. One note: ASU's last two seasons – 24,450 in 2012 joining last fall – is the program's lowest two-year average since 2005-6, when it averaged 23,169 and 22,589, respectively.

On this end of the spectrum, these rankings mean nothing other than a bit of insight before the season starts. We won't know how each team will match up until the games are played. 119 and 124 aren't really anything to write home about...but it's still better than not being ranked at all. If anything, it is good publicity for national attention.

Just glad to be FBS, even if still transitional.
Am surprised actually that Georgia Southern was ranked as low as they were with a 7-4 record,
and a win over Florida.

so this guy picked southern to beat app, and is saying app will be the favorites to beat us. And he says that they play Southern at home. Dude needs to get his facts straight. I guess our game will end in a tie. lol

lol I don't think he really put much effort in fact checking. It will take some time before they start taking us seriously.

yeah. which is what i expected from the lower half of these rankings. you would think he would at least get the scheduling part right, especially when he already did our write up and picked us to beat app. haha

It's not that you're ranked 119 & GaSo is ranked 124 that bothers me that much.
It's that we're one spot away from that 0-12 other GSU!
I take that first statement back. I think we should be 118.

These guesstimates by one person do not mean much at all.

IMO, a perfectly fair assessment of where we stand. Anyone who watched last season knowing we are stepping up in competition couldn't think any differently. Interesting comments about the secondary. The way the writer worded it sounds like they came straight from the coaches. Those App fans who drank the Sun Belt is no better than a top FCS conference Kool Aid are in for a rude awakening.

A great season for App would be beating GaSo, the two FCS schools, the three FBS schools that were a combined 2-34 last season, and one other suprise win for a 7-5 record; but I'll feel overall positive about 4-8 or better. The only loss that would really hurt would be to Liberty or Campbell.
