I highly doubt Benson is that much influenced by Ga. Southern. We are just as interested as Louisiana and Ark. St. in advancing the Sun Belt.

In the SoCon we were regarded as the outsider (as was Appalachian) by our present commissioner. The private schools ran and had influence in the SoCon and still do.

Trust me...that wont be an issue in the Sun Belt. Benson loves his Eastern Schools.

Why would Benson show favoritism to eastern schools? I'm not saying he doesn't, but the man is a Boise State graduate that grew up in Idaho. If anything, I'd think he would be more prone to favor the western schools.

It has nothing to do with geography, it has to do with his power base for keeping his job.

Actually, there has been no idication that UL supports Missouri State. In fact, from what I've heard we support Benson's efforts to bring in an existing FBS program regardless of its current standing.....Enter UMass

I'm afraid that Benson might be an 'empire builder'. Adding a bunch of teams that are grateful to him, personally, for getting them in the conference might provide him with some job security.

That might not be the case. Just a fear. I don't know the man.

There aren't a lot of western programs available other than Missouri State. Missouri State would probably be of like mind with the Cajuns, stAte, and UALR on a lot of things. So it makes sense that they wouldn't be opposed.

That said, I can see them supporting an FBS add, even if temporary, and even if outside the footprint.

I don't think the fans really support UMass without basketball, I strictly talking our administration Farmer and Savoie. They've both went along with Benson's invitation to UMass.

So we have invited UMass to join as a FB only?

No...not yet

We are about 2 weeks out now from the Spring meetings. I fully expect some type of announcements connected with those-- it may very well be that we are staying at 11 for this year.

In fact that is what I am thinking right now--- no announcement of any addition this year.

Benson has been kissing azz with the Eastern teams ever since he got the gig. He is not making friends in the West, I assure you. He let Middle and WKU lead him around like a puppy, and has consistantly discounted or mistreated both UL and ASU.

He is better than the previous commish, but then my cat would be better than Waters.

Benson was no friend to Middle, but I think he knew we had one foot out the door when he took the job.
