Looks like MSU is building one helluva bench for the future. (the top 1% of D-I hoops gets all of the talent).

https://twitter.com/TheRecruitScoop/status/477478075580432384

So MSU gets Harris (big time scorer from WVU), good recruit (2015) Ahearn and sweet mid-major, Byrn Forbes.

All can play the same position. Ugh!!!

Hope there is enough PT for all 3????

Four if one counts Valentine.

Hell, who knows, if Forbes is going to ride the pines as a senior (after sitting out this coming season and playing one) maybe we can get him as a graduate eligible transfer. 03-lmfao

For the '15/'16 season I count: Valentine, Harris, Ahern and Forbes.

Valentine would be a senior, Harris a redshirt junior, Ahearn a frosh and Forbes a redshirt junior.

FWIW, some might remember Omari George whose 'claim to fame' was that he (incorrectly) was listed by Wikipedia as being an EMU verbal. Omari was a teammate of our recruit Timmy Boyd.

He is going to Norfolk State according to his Twitter.

BTW, I was thinking and thought:

Was there room for two 'prospects' in Nobles and (Tristan) Wilson in one class? (Murphy opted for some experienced talent up front and only one frosh.)

Would Murphy have taken Wilson if we had not taken Nobles in the fall?

I'm now 'convinced' that Murphy felt he had to take two experienced forwards in Okoloji and Nazione as well as two (experienced) centers, Samuel and Hunter. Add Nobles and that is FIVE forwards or centers in one class.

I really don't think there was a scholarship for Wilson. I think he got lost in the numbers and that if he had waited he could have taken Okoloji's scholarship next year.

That, of course, was his big, big decision: Go for a D-II scholarship or walk on D-I. Is that a 15 - 20K dollar decision?

I assume that if there is one last recruit it will be another guard.

2014 RECRUITING - COULD BE WAITING ON MALIK ALBERT FROM MOTT OR PERHAPS ANOTHER JC GUARD, NEED SOME EXPERIENCE AS A BACKUP FOR THE GUARD POSITIONS.

P.S. EMU TEAM CAMP GOING ON THIS WEEKEND, A LOT OF MICHIGAN HS TALENT, WILL WE OFFER ANY?

Dennis, I think if you read the 2015 tweets from several player it appears the EMU camp is resulting in Murphy offering some of the players.

With any luck, Izzo will turn those talents into second round picks.

Dennis, apparently the turnout was good, from the ISP website:

@scoopIPS

Another productive day at the EMU team camp. Saw 40+ teams over the two days and a lot of talent. Southfield was impressive. #Not12Mile?

another day, another nothing in regards to EMU Hoops recruiting - frustrating as hell

very little feedback from the team camp

what gives?, it's the 18th of June, aren't we done yet with the 2014 class?

I hope we aren't done with the 2014 class. 02-13-banana

I love having a coach who keeps a scholarship in his back pocket for a mid-summer Christmas present.

I've 're-formulated' my recruiting philosophy to reflect changes within the last few recruiting cycles:

1). November - take player(s) who are a 3 star or a 'high 2' (2.5 stars if there is such a thing). Lock them up.

2). Otherwise, carry the scholarships until April when "recruiting mayhem" begins and a coach can fill needs as ascertained by the previous seasons' performance of next season's returnees.

P.S. What do you want to know about Nobles, Boyd, Alvano, Nazione, Okoloji, Samuels, and Hunter that you don't know?

Do we (posters here) really need an EMU SI press release to tell us what has already been posted here?

Dennis, you do realize that a team camp is not like a conclave of Catholic Cardinals selecting a new Pope. Lol.

Team camps might be interesting but team X goes to say the Oakland team camp, and the UDM team camp and the EMU team camp.

At the end of the month what do we know?

The h.s. players know where the urinals are in the three arenas?

Sometimes I think you take a fact: "Team X was at the EMU camp" and build a big recruiting saga out of nothing much significant.

Most MAC-caliber players will take many unofficial visits to a lot of schools, like EMU, yet it is like someone driving through a neighbor looking at houses which are for sale. Just a lot of window shopping.

It is easy to OVER interpret that a team was at an EMU camp or a player took an unofficial visit (which frequently means almost nothing).

Amen to that Steve. An EMU press release will give us no new information regarding players. We all have access to their bio info, former team or high school stats, and maybe some limited highlights. The only thing a press release will do is put a big paper clip on the pages of information that we already know. And if there is one scholarship still in the bag that paper clip still maybe come off again before the fall. It also could shed some more speculation light towards which walk-ons may be getting a scholarship next year or not.

With that said, I would still love for Murphy and company to have statement in regards to this recruiting class, so we can officially move from the mysteries of EMU basketball recruiting 2014 to the mysteries of Murphy's 14-15 rotation.

I guess what I would learn from a press release is that the recruiting class is believed complete.

BUT any coach with a scholarship in his pocket could grab one of say hundreds of possible transfer candidate. That pool is hardly empty. 03-cloud9

I think a press release would be marketing the program something Murphy really lacks. There is a growing realization that Murphy is about Murphy not EMU.

Because there hasn't been a press release for our new recruits? Quite an overreaction.

Even if that is the truth, I can't blame him at all. He put the most competitive basketball product in well over a decade on the court this past season, and it culminated in 373 people attending our postseason game. The MAC is a stepping stone conference. I don't think any MAC AD has a realistic expectation of the coach being a "lifer" when they hire them.

RE: Men's Hoops So Where are we now? - rayEMU - 06-21-2014 11:39 PM

Everyone on this board knows what the recruiting status is (A thankyou to all those keeping us informed!).

But if you don't follow this board you are clueless of EMU's class. EMU lost some key players in Bryant and Riley, so I imagine most are thinking next year is a set back season. Which certainly is not exciting.

You inform some of these fans through a press release of Samuels, Nazione, and the freshman guards. And now there is some speculative excitement and anticipation for the next season. Maybe even some word of mouth advertising. Who knows.

EMU is an overshadowed program. You need to put the buzz out there.

Actually last year the press release was April 29 (Ajayi and Combs). I believe that was the end of recruiting except during 'mid-summer' (?) we unexpectedly picked up Hughley.

This year 'we won't know until we know' what is happening recruiting wise.

I'd like to think we are awaiting something, but have no knowledge if this is true or not...

As far as Murphy and CC they are 180 degree opposites. CC is a "anybody, anywhere, anytime' coach with a lot fire and passion. Murphy is much quieter, more reserved, might I say shy person, but he isn't a shrinking violet. He demonstrates no patience for players who screw up when they should know better. He just isn't a Bobby Knight.

There is plenty of room for both types of coaches (I mean Murphy and CC, not Bobby Knight) in their profession.

CC will get the headlines, but Murphy will probably get the wins (didn't we make the MAC semis for the first time since March 1998, or 16 years ago? 03-idea)
