The Sun Belt Final 4 - Eagleditka - 04-19-2014 09:29 PM

NMSU all-sports seems to be the lowest hanging of all the fruit. If that were to happen UMass for football-only would make sense. It would be a way to kind of balance out the travel on both sides of the conference. Each division stuck with one ridiculous road trip every other year. West gets Moscow, East gets Amherst/Foxboro.

Two wrongs don't make a right. The Sun Belt needs to stay in the southeast and gulf coast states, think SEC-ish.

But that doesn't get an all-sports travel partner for App that the Sun Belt seems to be so desperate to add. Unfortunately there is no easy solution and if I were the Sun Belt I'd ask UMass to join for just football and make the contract extremely beneficial to the conference. No sense in adding a potential long-term member if they may not be a fit. Take the temporary add so that it leaves you with options. I'm just sad to see my school be in the wrong position in this scenario.

Well naturally I would like a two year contract with UMass. Of course this is only assuming Liberty can't get voted in. At this point I'm willing to accept Liberty just to get all this nonsense over with.

JSU and EKU get invites if we drop below 9 football programs.

And GaSo would not be in survival mode? All threes budgets are basically the same. JSU and EKU would probably be in better shape than GaSo.

If only Army were willing to join. There's a ton of military bases in Sun Belt country. It would be a conference they could be competitive in.

We are already in and were added because the SBC was in survival mode. Jax would be added if we were once again in survival mode. As far as budgets, we have nearly 21k students as a base whereas jax only has 9.5k which will limit their access to resources.

If GaSo didn't deserve to be in FBS who did? Maybe I'm wrong but App and GaSo time had came to move to FBS.

adding schools like jsu and eku would just make stAte and U-laf that more determined to leave. I have family in jacksonville and they say they would never think of sending their kids there to school..we need to add better or stand pat.

If it's a terrible place why do they stay?
What is so great about ULL and A State that separates them from EKU or JSU?

UTA? Can't say much about it as I never heard of it unless it mean UT Austin but most people in my area just call it Texas.

the town and the school are two different things...I could live in thibodaux but not want my kids to go to nicholls state. I'm sorry if you have no idea of the differences between those schools, there are many. as for uta, it's a pretty good school with a 12+ Billion dollar impact on the dfw area and can happily stand on it's own whether you have ever heard of it or not..if you cant imagine why stAte or U-laf and maybe a few others would want to bolt..maybe you should read up on the demise of the wac or the sw conference..not trying to ruffle feathers, just trying to add to the discussion..

To be fair though... NO ONE wants their kids to go to Nicholls State, not even Mr. & Mrs. Nicholls. I mean, come on... who wants a school mascot that is M. Bison from Street Fighter?

ULL and Ark St aren't going anywhere anytime soon. And becoming more unhappy does not increase the chances.

If it came down to a destination Christian school, I'd rather have Grand Canyon if they had a football team. They have made themselves extremely visible throughout the eastern US through WAY-FM (their morning jock recently got a degree from GCU), and through a number of concert tours.

Not to mention GCU is in Phoenix, which would be like adding another Atlanta to the conference. For practical reasons, it would be football only, but GCU would open up California and Nevada for TV purposes during football season.

I'm sure UTA is a good school just as JSU. Have no idea why your family dislikes the university but they are missing out on a great opportunity.

But Grand Canyon is for-profit if I am not mistaken. I think they would have an even bigger hurdle to leap than Liberty to gain membership to FBS.

Yea the big boy schools are pretty ticked about grand canyon being d1 I'm not familiar with local politics in sun belt country but I imagine bama Arkansas uga unc Texas and such would use all they had to keep them out

I don't believe either is better or worse than ULL or A St.
JSU or EKU haven't accomplished anything at the FBS level but neither have played in the subdivision. Give them a few years and both would accomplish quite a bit.
