I know I'm not the only one who is sorely disappointed in your administration's decision. JMU would have been an excellent addition to the Belt. I wish the Dukes the best of luck in the FCS.

Now, how many of you JMU guys are planning to lessen your donation level if not pull it entirely in light of your leadership's short-sighted decision?

RE: JMU Fans: - JMU_Newbill - 04-16-2014 12:42 PM

There's quite a few that are pulling donations completely.

JMU sent out a letter to boosters that basically said they were not interested in the SBC Or CUSA. Fans are not happy.

They have a thread similar to this on their board:

Gonzo, its over for this year. JMU isn't listening to their fans.

Quite frankly, its time for us to all just wish JMU the best in CAA and move on.

And the Belt is going to probably demand a signed application from the JMU President and the JMU BOV's before talking to them again. Its a waste of time at this point. Quite frankly, I think we should.

And even then, there will be people (not I) who will be opposed to JMU as a result of their decision to turn the Belt down.

JMU has really painted themselves into a corner. But I suspect that their BOV and their administration actually wanted to paint them into a corner. I don't think its the Sun Belt. I think its FBS they really don't want. They have to know that the chances that the MAC will take them is not good. That CUSA will take them is also not very good (actually even less).

RE: JMU Fans: - DrGonzo - 04-16-2014 12:49 PM

The irony is that this decision was made under the guise of saving money. Now they're hemorrhaging donors.

JMU Fans: - TheEagleWay - 04-16-2014 12:57 PM

If Southern did this last year, I would have thought long and hard about even participating in the 2013 season.

RE: JMU Fans: - GoApps70 - 04-16-2014 12:59 PM

There were several donors that said that if App State didn't go FBS they would quit donating,
and some said they would never start donating again. Not sure that it wasn't just talk, but
sounded serious.

Purple streamers and all, lol? A good rivalry could have become super intense. Dang it JMU!!!

I was serious. I may not have stopped totally, but I'd definitely lowered it and maybe only bought mini-season tickets. Go big or go home as they say. It will be interesting to see how this affects JMU down the road.

RE: JMU Fans: - asupatch - 04-16-2014 01:25 PM

I would have probably dropped season tickets and only attended the better games.. Got tired of have to buy them for scheduling with Mars Hill, Lenoir Rhyne and such.

Benson just gave the MAC a TON of leverage with that interview. They now know they have JMU in their pocket for a minimum of one more year.

The MAC already had a TON of leverage with JMU.

Yea, you really think the MAC wants another geographic outlier (for them) as a 13th team?

The MAC has expanded East/South 5 times recently. Lets see how that worked out for them

Buffalo - Worked out.
Marshall - Nope.
Temple - Nope.
UCF - Nope.
UMass - Nope.

I guess it is possible the MAC wants JMU. I'd just be really surprised if that were the case.

I'm curious what the avg attendance will be for JMU this year, I think the admin is going to be kicking themselves.

I for one am glad and I think Appalachian State should be too. We have gone from just five FBS schools in North Carolina and two in Virginia to 7!FBS schools in NC and 3 in VA JMU would have made 4. Now Liberty is still out there and could make the fourth in Virginia I hope not. What's next Coastal Carolina?

I predict that Coastal Carolina is next...for the CAA.

I hope the Presidents just tell Benson. We tried. Lets stay at 11 next year. No need for any rash decisions now that we can have CCG at our current level.

21.6k in 2013...there were 7 home games. In 2012 we had 23k and 25k in 2011....the trend downward is already starting.

Since there are only 5 home games this year, and 2 of them against Delaware and W&M (usually nice draws), I expect around 21k again. After the 2014 season though? Who knows.

RE: JMU Fans: - CajunExpress - 04-16-2014 04:58 PM

Thank God we are saved by the short sighted JMU leaders. Now things will cool down after June first.

RE: JMU Fans: - moehler - 04-16-2014 05:26 PM

from my perspective, this really sucks, no offense to GS or the other Southern Conference teams, but the times we played JMU the intensity on the field and the rivalry between the fan bases seemed greater than any other game we played all year. Its just seemed both schools really wanted to win that particular game. Both schools are so similar, and it really helped that we were close to each other. This had the potential to be one of the most intense rivalries in the SBC and it could have really benefited both schools, it would not have surprised me if you would have eventually seen 35,000 plus at the football games. I wonder if its really worth it for the JMU administration to give up so much just to wait for an invitation from the MAC/USA that may never come.
