That they would have started to work on that image by now?

Keep preaching what you think/feel/hear REV, and I will keep coming back with facts, logic, and reason, backed up by actual sources.

"Falwell, 50, acknowledged that Liberty’s image continues to be influenced by the legacy of his late father’s political activism. The elder Falwell, who died in May 2007, was a polarizing figure — beloved on the right, despised on the left.

But his son said Liberty has turned a page.

“We’re not the Moral Majority anymore,” Falwell said, referring to the religious conservative movement his father founded. “We’re not a church. Our mission is to educate.”

I come right back to my original question: What has Liberty DONE (not said, lip service is easy) to change their image?

I applaud Falwell Jr (or JFJ, if you prefer not to mention his last name to further distance from Sr) for saying that. Now I want to see him ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING to back up what he says.

EDIT: What fact have you presented? What logic have you presented? What reason? HOW has Liberty changed from it's ways? Simply replacing one Falwell with another doesn't really change much. Now, if Jr has done stuff to change Liberty, I'd love to hear it.

2016 FBS Bowl Eligible

If a team chose to wait until after June 1st to file

That money can be used to change and improve their image, which they will need to do to bring in more money. The baggage excuse is a short term issue, it is not a long term issue.

So, they have the money now. They have the baggage issue now. But they aren't changing and improve their image.

So when exactly do you think they are going to start trying to get rid of that baggage? Or more to the point, don't you think in spite of being the obviously most ready team last year and personal favorite of Benson, yet still get denied entrance... I would not say that Liberty is a personal favorite of Benson. Liberty has expressed a desire to move to FBS and is waiting for an invitation. JMU has not officially expressed that desire yet...that decision is soon to come.

So of the schools that have expressed a desire to move up to FBS, Liberty is the best candidate. The geography really helps as well.

JMU would be an academic gem for the Sun Belt Conference. That is why they needed to wait a year. Liberty could not win a vote on their own merits as long as JMU was around. That is why the 12th team will be added this spring. JMU will make a decision for FBS or FCS.

I believe Liberty is changing but it takes time to convince some people of that. In the meantime, people can live in the past and dwell on the dumb things that a dead man said or they can look to the future. Either way, the money Liberty has will eventually change their image.

So, they aren't doing anything to change their image but wait it out?

RE: Sun Belt Conference votes to expand - Eagleditka - 03-22-2014 07:18 PM

Benson alluding to finding a replacement for WKU makes me think EKU is still in contention. 22K stadium, solid winning tradition, App St travel partner. Making the NCAAs could have bolstered their case as well. WKU would hate it, after the way they left us, I'm in favor of doing what we can to stick it to them. I think they would be an underrated addition that would fit into the SBC seamlessly. We weren't financially ready for FBS when we announced. But after the announcement, excitement picked up, student fees were increased, and now we're on more solid footing. If EKU uses the transition year wisely they can do that too.

Maybe the question should be, what has Liberty done lately to offend anyone? Falwell, JR. has said, "It's not Liberty University's mission to do what Moral Majority did. We're not a church. We're not a political organization. Our job is to educate young people to go out and make a difference in whatever walk of life they chose."

I just don't see that as "baggage". I think that is an example of trying to change. But I expect them to spend money to market these type of messages, especially if they are invited to the SBC.

RE: Sun Belt Conference votes to expand - GaSoEagle - 03-22-2014 08:37 PM

I really don't get why the MAC has not already expanded if it was their desire. I am coming to the conclusion JMU has 2 choices: stay in CAA or join the SBC. I think we will have an answer before too long and I would not be at all surprised if they decided to stay in the CAA.

What difference will it make to the conference? Will you enjoy watching it on ESPN3? Will it help our conference image or power rankings? Is it of any real vaule? How many will then start a 13th thread when the 12th is added? I can only hope that we have decision makers that are better thinkers than Karl and kill this notion now.

The concerns that our championship wouldn't get picked up for TV are very unfounded.

The concerns about travel also are pointless because it will be played at home sites...meaning its just up to the home team to travel.

The espn3 question is to say just how unimportant the game will be. Yeah, someone will pick it up. Big deal. It will be a meaningless game and could hurt the conference more than help.

Please tell me what WKU did to you ? It was well known before the announcement was made that CUSA was a Go. Why do you think Georgia Southern was added to the SunBelt along with App. State !!!! Get over yourself you haven't even played a Game in the Belt and yet you spout off about nothing you Know! I hope they do add EKU , because you know what WKU has moved on so Thanks for the MEMORIES........04-cheers

There is no logic in the forum. There are only 4 schools in the position to say yes by June 1st.
MSU EKU, Belmont, coastal, SFA, SHSU, UTC,NDS, Del. is not one of those 4 schools

JMU
Liberty
Jax st
Lamar

SBC will choose 1 of these school.
take your pick.
Crap that doesnt want us.
Fried Crap on Stick
School not trying to be crap.
Texas deep fried crap with salsa

Pass
Those are the 4 choices.
unless sbc wait another year, but i doubt it.

RE: Sun Belt Conference votes to expand - arkstfan - 03-22-2014 10:33 PM

I know that unless something has changed in the past 7 days there are at least two firm no votes for Liberty. My math education says if everyone else is a yes, Liberty has the votes but if there is another no vote, they do not.

If the east is unanimous for Liberty normal conditions would mean they'd get in but I'm not sure normal conditions apply given that the west was unanimous for NMSU and the east blocked. The question is does that carry future consequences of western schools being very reluctant to concede on anything less than a program they deem ideal?

And never ever rule out the possibility that no single school can get the votes to expand but a bundled deal of two or more may get the votes.

Coming from a school with 0 years in Sun Belt vs. 32 years and numerous NCAA units gained by WKU, the only school to gain national notoriety for the SUn belT..Really? This is what you post? I feel sorry for the SB having to deal with "this".....

RE: Sun Belt Conference votes to expand - ARSTATEFAN1986 - 03-22-2014 10:50 PM

Adding NMSU is a good move. They were previously in the SBC as a full member and they were competitive in football and basketball (men and women) as well as baseball. They were instrumental in the belt adding football. The SBC has been interested in adding Missouri State much longer than Liberty or JMU. They bring a rich tradtion in both men and women's basketball to the belt. Once they move up to FBS...the excitement by their fan base will get them to the desired football attendence. EKU is also in a good position with their location to Appalachian State...pretty good football and basketball and they have announced their intentions of wanting to move up.
Adding Liberty or JMU stretches the Sun Belt further east while EKU really doesn't.

Two things I think will happen

1. Liberty gets in with NMSU in for all sports

2. EKU gets in along with MSU and NMSU for all sports.

If Idaho eventually gets into the mwc or in the big sky it would be even better.

I hope Liberty and JMU are not added. If they were added and then left..they would not be missed...kind of like FAU and FIU.
