NDSU & EKU - MJG - 03-21-2014 02:09 PM

Why not invite NDSU football only and EKU for Olympic sports.
NDSU already plays in two conferences . EKU could be promised the next spot while building relationships in the SBC.
EKU would then have the time to gear up for FBS. Not sure of the distance but I am sure they could be APP 's travel partner.

Gives the conference better exposure and football with a built in cushion in case a team leaves. EKU could join the Big South for football only if necessary.

SBC would have 15 schools total in the main sports with a 12 and 12 split. That would be better than a 16 team conference less chance of any split. Maybe not ideal but it has the potential to be really good.

RE: NDSU & EKU - NCeagle - 03-21-2014 02:27 PM

that would suck for their travel costs.

Here is a current list of the all time winningest basketball schools in NCAA division 1 history. This would be a fairly objective source of who to add for a basketball school if you could get them. Note that Western Ky who is leaving is on the list and Eastern is not. Just because someone puts out a press sheet about FBS and happens to make the NCAA tournament does not mean they will be there year in and year out. These schools have shown that. Perhaps, you should be looking at another Ky school in Eastern's conference in Murray State. At least they are a bonafide basketball school.

EKU up early on Kansas 23-14

RE: NDSU & EKU - TheRevSWT - 03-21-2014 04:31 PM

I don't understand the idea to invite NDSU. They are outside of the footprint that the Sun Belt is trying to build.

Just because the conference has stepped out of the footprint once doesn't mean that the entire notion of a footprint goes out the window.

RPI boost

RPI is irrelevant in football.

I thought SOS mattered for ranking to get into BCS game

Do you REALLY believe that NDSU is the difference between a BCS bowl invite and another bowl for a Sun Belt team?

No but getting the marquee wins they get every year and stronger teams can't help. They are stronger than other options at this moment. Maybe I'm just dreaming haha

RE: NDSU & EKU - MJG - 03-21-2014 11:24 PM

Maybe a. Two team strategy satisfies most. That is if JMU goes to the MAC and Missouri State is not ready no one wants Liberty and most believe EKU is not ready.

How else is the SBC going to get national attention with its current media deal. Big Sky and WAC fans at least have a passing interest. Why not add the Summit it is a different age with the Internet making distance less relevant.

RE: NDSU & EKU - Kittonhead - 03-22-2014 12:26 AM

Missouri State is in the process of completing a stadium renovation so I'm going to say they're ready to go.

With the CFP money guaranteeing 1.3 million per school, not including the G5 performance money or access bowl payout anyone in FCS practically has to move up if they get the invite.

A CUSA invite for a long while has been a no brainer for moving up because of its TV deal but now I think any FBS invite is a no brainer. There is no longer a "second way" where saving money on football scholarships is a competitive advantage.

RE: NDSU & EKU - chiefsfan - 03-22-2014 02:07 AM

There is some logic to taking NDSU...it would certainly be a splash add. Free National attention, and a program that could come in and compete immediately. Strong fan base that has donors coming out of the woodworks. Extreme home field advantage that would make it a tough out in any home game.

That being said...the reality is the Bison could very easily be stuck simply because of Geography. Any invite would have to be football only...and I doubt being semi close to Idaho is really a standard for SBC Membership. NDSU is a nice fit if Idaho drops and we need a football only member. Probably not with Idaho in the league though.

RE: NDSU & EKU - Kittonhead - 03-22-2014 02:34 AM

I think you could upgrade Missouri State to the SBC and within a couple of recruiting classes they could have everything NDSU has in football and then some.

The SBC has talked about starting a bowl with the MAC in Little Rock and Missouri St would help get that going for the SBC. I see a lot of strategic value for the SBC in having MSU football.

The bottom line is with the SBC at the bottom of the FBS totem poll it has to get to 12 teams ASAP. Its not like the MAC where it can wait around for a few years at 13 when they already have a championship game and the only real moving part is UMass. Programs will always be sucked up from the SBC if there is any movement. They have to push to 12 just to ensure survival.

RE: NDSU & EKU - GaSouthern - 03-22-2014 08:13 AM

If I were the MAC I would have added NDSU this season.

RE: NDSU & EKU - Tom in Lazybrook - 03-22-2014 01:21 PM

NDSU is the best FCS team. They need a new stadium and a desire to move up. If they committed to both, I'd prefer them to JMU.

I agree as well. They would be a strong add.

RE: NDSU & EKU - slycat - 03-22-2014 04:16 PM

I think the MAC is their best option. Or maybe if MWC wants to expand.

Instant credibility. Excellent in football, basketball, and baseball. North Dakota is booming right now. They are the FCS program most prepared for the next level.
