I am in full agreement that the Sun Belt needs to improve in basketball. I don't know if there is any chance however of the conference expanding to 14 to bring in 2 extra basketball schoosl.

May I ask you a question then?

Are you a Cajun fan who is convinced that the Cajun program would be better off in C-USA because they've got their shiite together?

You do not get to frame the argument. You seem to be a fan of AAC, why did your alter ego school go there? C USA not what it was once, but still it is better perceived and has better contracts, bowls, than the SBC.

Ahhh, but I do frame the argument. It's my thread.

I defend the Belt for the darned decent conference it is....football, baseball, softball just to name a few sports. Basketball generally sucks donkey balls, but that doesn't mean it can't be improved. All of the conferences problems can be improved.

You're right, C-USA is not what it once was and would be nothing more than a lateral move at best at this point. But, if your strategery is to see the Cajun program move from a conference that is obviously on the upswing to one that clearly is not, then we don't really have much to discuss.

RE: Wow, blasting the conference president verbally.... - CajunExpress - 03-16-2014 09:25 PM

IMO C USA is doing that better than SBC.

Doing what better? To me they're clearly a better basketball conference though many of their own fans now wonder about that after seeing them get a single bid this year.

Last year they had a better bowl package, no doubt....but the Belt's is improving. Their TV deal seems better though if you take the time to research the subject, many say it's no where near what's touted.

I don't doubt for a second that if C-USA extended a bid, the Cajun admin would jump at it and the great majority of Cajun fans would rejoice.

I won't be one of them, not at this point.

Large sample CajunFanatico, large sample. WKU good at all sports and football. Southern Miss has a long, long, long history of great football. LTU great history, Middle pretty solid. North Teas coming back. Wat am I missing? Oh yea, UL and ASU want to be there. That makes it a lot better.

Rice great baseball, UTEP has a national championship in their history basket ball and ok football. Rice Ok football. So you base every thing on Troy, two newbies, ULM thats it.

Bruno at ULM is now the league president.

I figured that was the point of quote... To show that if you take out the conference name/commissioner (or president) name, you can find someone bitching about it on every conference message board.

I am not as confident in this as you are. Our administration's goal is to make ourselves the most prominent G5 program and to play in a BCS Bowl. We will play in whatever league accomplishes that goal. If They don't feel CUSA accomplishes that goal, they wont move.

Ideally, I think we want in the AAC. Which isn't happening as long as Memphis is in the league.

Bunch of reasons. I do not believe they see as a program on an equal level.

I've seen your argument laid out over and over, agree with some of it, but it mostly points to potential and contains lots of history.

Here are my comebacks.

USM, as much as I admire and respect what they've done in the past, is in a DEEP HOLE in many of their sports and the landscape has changed so much around them, that I'm not convinced they'll ever climb back out of it.

Rice will bolt C-USA quicker than a cat can lick his ass. Of that there is no doubt.

La Tech seems to be hot and cold and while they've been a great rival for the Cajuns, have you really seen them build on what they've accomplished in football? They were terrible this past year, terrible.

North Texas had one good year, this past one, out of the last how many? I'm not convinced that they'll be able to leverage that into anything next year. They claim they're reloading. I'm thinking their fans might just be loaded and not realize how much graduation has cost them.

UTSA? Great add. Respect their football and wish we had them in the Belt. Basketball, they suck, but so do most of the Belt teams.

WKU I hate to lose for many reasons. They're definitely a plus for C-USA.

But then there's the F_U's, UAB, UTEP, and a host of newbies with virtually no history in football.

The Belt was the top-rated non-AQ football conference this past year....not 2 seasons ago, this past year with most members finishing bowl-eligible. That's something very positive to build on.

Arkansas State has consistently shown that it's a winner in football despite overcoming the huge obstacle of yearly coaching changes.

And if you wish to talk history, are there any better programs than App State and Georgia Southern when it comes to college football? Anyone who doubts that they won't make every effort to replicate in FBS what they did in FCS better watch out.

If stAte and the Cajuns leave for C-USA, it will definitely make that conference better and hurt the Belt. But again, in my personal opinion it'd amount to a lateral move. I hope we stop this realignment madness for a while and settle in to making our programs better where they are today.

Late in life I am CrazyCajun. But also understand that those years have given me some insight and ability into recognizing value, especially relative values. What I see today are many Cajun fans clamoring to see us jump from the Belt into ANY conference, even at the risk of undoing what the new administration and Coach Hud have accomplished in only 3 short years, just to say we're rid of the Belt and Karl Benson.

The point of my thread was, of course, to demonstrate that in C-USA, where most inside and outside observers would agree that they are a superior conference in basketball to the Belt, even their most avid basketball fans are in disagreement as to the perception of the conference and the job being done by their commissioner to promote it.

CajunJuice said the following about my OP: and also took out the CUSA wording and made it seem like someone talking about the Sun Belt.

I didn't make it seem like anything. I merely demonstrated that the same Cajun fans who have such a jaundiced view of the Belt, slip on the rose-colored glasses as soon as the subject of C-USA comes up.

And he proved my point perfectly.

The conference really needs to have a plan for branding. Especially for the Basketball side of the Conference. He has got to get us in the conversation on the national stage. We need a TV contract that is better than what we saw this year. The TV exposure was sad.

It's not a matter of branding. It's a matter of having a commissioner that doesn't think his conference is a tinker toy.

Every conference except the SEC is a stepping stone and anyone who thinks otherwise needs to remember that crack is whack.

I once saw a post where a Southern Conference fan was detailing the long list of awful commissioners they had been subjected to.

I responded and asked, "Is it possible that the problem isn't the people being hired but rather the people doing the hiring and how they run their programs?"

Not going to happen until ASU is a Tier 1 academically either.
