The newest realignment thread!!! - Usajags - 12-03-2013 06:34 PM

Alright, with the season all but over and basketball just getting started, still have a some time before conference play starts.

So we have discussed it and we have waited. When do you guys, and gals, think that something will happen towards realignment. Any announcements, who it will be, what conferences will be effected???

Let the silly season begin. That is usually saved for coaches moving around, but realignment has the same feel now a days.

How long until we begin to hear something???

This. I'm leaning toward no additional changes for 2014 football season (for us at least). Not to say that something couldn't happen though.

If CUSA were to lose two, would they want to get back to 14 or be happy to be back at 12?

They'd sit...but the only way someone leaves CUSA is if another league poaches. I don't see any league itching to move.

My guess is the Sun Belt will only move if JMU or Missouri State elect to move. If not, we'll sit at 11 through 2015 as well.

I think you will only get major movement if the Big 12 adds two. Of course I would love to see the SBC add a 12th so we can have that championship game but I don't think the SBC should feel rushed to add anyone.

Maybe not but West Virginia is on an island so the Big 12 may feel the need to expand east. Cincinnati? UConn? Memphis? could be in play if they want to add a couple.

Correct. Too many GOR's in place and Maryland's lovely court battle with the ACC wlll scare several schools off.

My guess is that any movement in the next few years will be a small reshuffling out of the G5 leagues until we eventually settle. Or, one of us blows up and we get a major reshuffling. The trend says that one or the other will happen.

RE: The newest realignment thread!!! - HCJag - 12-03-2013 07:56 PM

Looks like it's over for now. It still wouldn't surprise me to see some shuffling around in the 3-5 year time frame as some schools may become discontent with the last round of moves, or geographically isolated teams like NMSU, Idaho, WVU, etc find new homes. Hopefully we can get to 12 in the mean time with a quality add. We need to concentrate more on getting the budgets up, improving facilities, improving basketball, getting more bowl tie-ins, winning the OOC battles, and bettering what we've got. I'm good with that.

Are you available for the commissioner's job?

I'm holding out for the Coosa job. 04-chairshot
Well...how much does it pay?

RE: The newest realignment thread!!! - gostAte870 - 12-03-2013 10:00 PM

They'll be no major changes for the remainder of this decade. If the Belt was smart, it would try to become as strong and stable as possible before the next big round of conference realignments. Get at least four bowl tie-ins and a couple of backup contracts and let's establish ourselves as the best G5 FBS conference. We seriously have the potential of becoming a SEC-lite. I like basketball, but we have to choose where we want to spend the bulk of our energy on, and I feel that football is where the money is. If we do well in basketball and baseball, then that is gravy. C-USA can continue to get their big city universities that don't give a crap about football, but we have potential in that we're getting programs that love football first and have rabid fanbases.

RE: The newest realignment thread!!! - FoUTASportscaster - 12-03-2013 10:07 PM

There's bigger revenue in football, there's greater profit in basketball if two or three teams get in the tourney and/or one team has a deep run.

those 3 are all too cheesy for the big 12. I doubt if any members would go for adding any of them. byu might be an option..

Another possible applicant for the Belt's commissioner slot!

I agree fully. Football is king in the South. Use SEC football as the model, make a concerted effort to focus the OOC football scheduling of all Belt members with "local" SEC teams, build more bowl tie-ins, and actively promote the Belt as a football conference.

With the recent realignment in college football, I believe C-USA has been seriously weakened as a football conference. Do this right and I could envision more than one C-USA team reversing the trend and heading our way.

RE: The newest realignment thread!!! - FloridaJag - 12-04-2013 06:22 PM

I do not see any conference moves. I hope top see UTA announcing a football exploratory committee. 04-cheers
