Yet another in a long line of embarrassing moments for Stetson men's basketball.

This thread is in 4 spots right now, but it even bothers me as just a Mercer fan. I really feel for Stetson, and I don't want anything to do with Lipscomb. I posted some ideas for coaching hires in the Stetson forum. They can bounce back from this. I really think Lipscomb made a terrible move. Stetson WILL be better in the long run for this. Go Hats!

Pretty surprising but this is what happens when your athletic program is run like sh&t and your department is completely leaderless, run by a baffoon named Jeff Altier.

The atmosphere and morale among coaches there is so piss poor. I'm surprised anyone would wanna coach there.

Conference website doesn't even bother mentioning it. What's the deal with that?

If anyone has an inside scoop on what happened, I'd love to hear about it. I've got my feelers out :) How do you take over a program and after 2 years, leave for a fellow conference opponent? It's not like he's gonna be making a ton more money. I'm willing to guess that Casey just was not happy with what was happening at Stetson.

I believe the family missed home. This will take them home. I don't think it was a school issue as much as a family issue. It's terrible this late in the year and has put Stetson and the players in a very bad way. Hard to have good feelings for him when he exited the way he did. I would guess the money is the same or even a little less.

Let's recap this here:

He goes to Stetson, and as a result their best player transfer out. (Perez)

He goes to Lipscomb, their best player transfers out (Hurt)

Now both teams are in a world of trouble.

Who else will transfer out of Lipscomb?

Good one MercerFan. You seem to have summarized it correctly!

RE: Casey Alexander to Lipscomb - bombshell - MercerFan - 05-19-2013 09:35 PM

bigguy -- you'll have to keep us updated on what you hear from DeLand on a new coach and reactions in general.

Don't be shocked if Hurt didn't have academic troubles. I think Bigguy40 got it about right with the family stuff.
But seriously though, Murry Bartow would make a FANTASTIC addition to Stetson University. Anyone who has your A.D.'s ear should recommend him, I mean multiple NCAA's, 20 win seasons, knows the A-Sun, has recruited Florida in the past.

HEY. STOP THAT.

Nice try...put your garbage in your own trash cans. :)

Is there anybody left to transfer out of Lipscomb? I think Sanderson ran off everyone except the ballboys (I am a Lipscomb alum).

I don't know the details of this hire, but he seems generally well received by the rest of the coaching community. Having played at Belmont and coached their 16 years, I'm sure it was a "back home" move. If he succeeds, you would think he would be in line for the Belmont job when Byrd leaves. The campuses are literally a mile apart; he can finish out his coaching career without moving homes, kid's schools, and old friends/family. I hope he does well.

Sanderson ran everyone off? But yes, there is plenty left to transfer out and the Kennesaw camp just posted that an incoming Lipscomb recruit asked to be released. Yet to see if that's the last domino.

Good. I hope he has to suit up the janitor, the hot dog vendor and the tennis team up there just to have a roster in November.

Ha! I actually played Lipscomb for tennis during my years there, so I'll take you up on that offer.

^ suit him up!

RE: Casey Alexander to Lipscomb - bombshell - HatterFan - 06-02-2013 03:48 PM

Stetson to announce new coach tomorrow afternoon. I can't find the slightest bit of chatter or news or anything on Twitter about this hire, so we've got a perfect storm of "Stetson locks up information like it's Fort Knox" combined with "nobody actually cares enough to go find out."

RE: Casey Alexander to Lipscomb - bombshell - HatterFan - 06-02-2013 05:52 PM

Finally, something from the Daytona paper - reporting that it is to be FSU assistant Corey Williams, a former NBA player and recruiter for the Seminoles. The last Florida State assistant to go to the A-Sun wound up being Andy Enfield and that worked out not too shabby.

OK, so let's see what happens. Just don't leave us for, like, USC Upstate in a year.

RE: Casey Alexander to Lipscomb - bombshell - bigguy40 - 06-02-2013 08:30 PM

Seems he has a lot of experience and respect among the coaching and player communities. It is exciting that they selected someone so fast. That will help the program stay on track. A new coach has a lot of work to do to get his program in place and that takes time. Announcement tomorrow than start the process coach. Assistants, system, get the players on board. GoHatters!!
