I would argue that I think USA (with the highest RPI) should be in the Tallahassee regional, but I'd like our chances better at Clemson.

I'd prefer our team be in Tallahassee for our fan base. But for completely personal reasons (me being in Atlanta and not far from Clemson) I'd be happy to swap with USA LOL.

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - Atlanta Trojan - 05-16-2013 11:29 AM

I'd rather have to play Clemson than FSU.

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - BLEEDITRED - 05-16-2013 11:34 AM

I'd rather take 2 of 3 from Troy this weekend, win the tourney, and host in Mobile.

And I'd rather our boys hit lights out against you this weekend!

I do know our guys are excited.

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - SkullyMaroo - 05-16-2013 12:25 PM

According to these projections we have the following hosts by conference. These conferences below are numbered by conference RPI.

1. ACC (5 hosts)
2. SEC (3 hosts)
3. PAC-12(4 hosts)
4. Big 12 (1 host)
5. Sun Belt (0 hosts)
6. Big West (1 host)
7. Big Ten (1 host)
8. Colonial Athletic (0 hosts)
9. Big East (1 host)

What some garbage. If USA finishes in the top 16 RPI and wins the Sun Belt (Troy fans I said IF lol) then I'll be highly pissed if we get shafted AGAIN! I hope the NCAA selection committee thinks differently than these projections.

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - GaSoEagle - 05-16-2013 01:47 PM

How is the SunBelt tourney set up?

In the SoCon the top 8 teams make the tourney -- 2 pods of 4 teams each (1, 4, 5 and 8 in one pod and 2, 3, 6, and 7 in the other). Double elimination in each group of 4. A 1 game championship with the winners of each pod playing each other

Location, location, location. Look at where the three conferences are below the Sun Belt, that is your answer.

As far as Tallahassee, location, location, location. RPI doesn't have a who heck of a lot in determining where teams play. Maybe a little, but they are going to send you somewhere close if at all possible.

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - chiefsfan - 05-16-2013 01:51 PM

USA will not be left out of a host spot on merit, they will be on Geography. There are a lot of capable hosts in the Mobile area.

Either Arkansas, Kansas State, or Oklahoma is going to host a regional this year. Not because they deserve it, but because there are so few schools capable of hosting nearby that one is almost guaranteed to get one.

I would say Tallahassee is no bigger than Mobile.
Actually it's smaller.

Tallahassee has 367,000 in it's metro
Mobile has 412,000 in it's metro. And Mobile is closer to the beach.

What? Think you are a little lost on the discussion. South Alabama would/could be sent to Tallahassee over say Clemson due to geography. Not comparing the two towns.

So this projection has USA traveling all the way to Clemson, SC because it's more fair to send USA there than make Arkansas, Oklahoma, or Kansas State come to Mobile or another regional when they don't deserve to host? How is that fair? What more can we do to host?!!

USA has been a #1 seed 3 times but wasn't able to host! We went to Clemson, Notre Dame, and I believe Florida State as the number one seed as they hosted. Not to count the many times we were made a 2 seed simply because we weren't hosting. How many more times will we get the shaft? We have done EVERYTHING the NCAA has wanted in order to host.

Total BS. I'll have to look at this projection a little more closely when I get a moment.

NCAA has been making a big deal of late about having a host school in every region. Arkansas has no business hosting for example, but the NCAA will see 20 wins in the SEC, and a stadium that would draw 10,000 fans per night, and they suddenly look really attractive.

Kansas State would get you a team that doesnt normally host, and gives a host team out of a weak Big 12. Both are in the same regional at the projection, and look at their RPI and record and compare it to your own. Its clear they arent there because they are top 16 teams.

NCAA is all about the dollar signs....

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - BLEEDITRED - 05-16-2013 02:24 PM

We host if we win 2 out of 3 this weekend, and at least make it to the championship game. I don't see them denying a ~ 43-16 team that is top 18 in both ranking and rpi, especially given what was already mentioned in regard to us being #1 at another site 3 different times.

To be fair though, those times were because we did not have the facility in place to host. Stanky Field was run down with peeling, splintered wooden bench seating, not great field conditions, and a poor press box. Definitely not the case any longer. They'll reward us if we earn it.

I say the geography argument is not that strong. In this projection:

UNC and NC State -- 25 miles apart
UCLA and Cal State Fullerton -- 45 miles apart
Oregon and Oregon State -- 49 miles apart
South Carolina and Clemson -- 136 miles apart

I'm not saying geography plays no factor in decisions. But there are some extremely close regionals in the projections. Passing on USA because of geography won't cut it for this Jag fan. I'm not going to get mad at this point, because we have to play Troy and it might all be for naught. But at this point with the information we have we should be one of the 16 regionals in the projections. We have done our part. Awarding a team with lesser qualifications the host bid is political in every way. We have had to travel every NCAA Tournament even when we deserved to host. It's time we get to host.

Anywhere but Baton Rouge. Good gawd, that team in Baton Rouge is scary good this year!

RE: 4 SBC schools projected in the NCAA regionals - chiefsfan - 05-16-2013 02:47 PM

Trust me, I hope they give you guys the host, and force Arkansas to travel to Mobile. Im just telling you why you are seeing national "experts" picking those two schools as hosts.

Avoid Chapel Hill
Avoid Nashville
Avoid Baton Rouge

You guys can win any other regional out there...
