MWC looking to anchor new bowl in Los Angeles - billings - 04-25-2013 06:01 PM

MWC - 1. 2 or 3 versus the PAC org BIG 12 - 5 or 6 in a rotation for 2014 - 2019

Might be a good addition to the MWC though it could kill the potato bowl. I would trade a MAC matchup for the AQ matchup any day though

Where would it be? Baton Rouge? There's already once in Shreveport and the two in NOLA.

Actually I think he means Lower Alabama: Gotta be another bowl in Mobile...cool!

So how many bowls get added with FBS soon to be at 129 if not 130 teams? We could easily see 80 bowl eligible teams some years.

I'd like to see the bowl eligibility raised to 7 wins. Probably not a popular opinion, but other than the premier bowls, the remainder of the CFB bowl system is meaningless.

Especially since bowls are in cities, not states. "LA" as a city is pretty straightforward.

If the opponent alternates between the Pac-12 and the Big "12", who is the opponent in the other alternating bowl, that gets the Pac-12 when this one gets the Big "12" and visa versa?

Does any one besides someone's personal blog have this? I'm not seeing anything from anywhere...

I flipped through the slideshow, and this guy is the head of the Christmas Bowl committee. Apparently he has USC (who manages the Coliseum) and the mayor of LA on board, or at least not saying no. He's got nothing from the MWC or PAC, though (or from the Big 12).

There is always a MWC team in the bowl. One year they get a PAC opponent and the next year a BIG 12 opponent. NO clue who they alternate with but just might be the VEGAS bowl giving the MWC two very nice matchups

I guess it's the best the MWC can get. And it could be a nice little rotation with the Vegas Bowl. I was myopically hoping the MWC might get a tie in with the Holiday. Remember, more often that not, the 5th or 6th Pac team will in actuallity be the 6th or 7th Pac 12 team now. More often than not, they will have one in the top 4.

Holiday sounds like its going the direction of PAC vs. B1G for 2014-19.

The B12 is "downsizing" its bowl lineup to 5 or 6 bowl games after the Sugar Bowl.

I like the idea of a second California Bowl for the MWC.

With the MWC now having 5 schools in California and Nevada it makes a lot of sense. Boise can be counted on to travel too.

The MWC and AAC are hard at work trying to schedule and bowl with AQ leagues. They'll have some success because there just isn't that many conferences out there to play.

Not sure if its the best the MWC can get. I hope its our #3 that'll play. Hopefully our #1 is playing in the Access bowl and then our #2 play against a top 25 team (i.e. vs AAC #2). The MWC should NOT have its top teams playing a #5/6 (6-6 PAC or Big 12) anymore. Just because we're playing a contract conference team doesn't make it exciting if we aren't playing a top 25 team in a bowl.

Yes, so one year the PAC have it in their bowl lineup, the next year not. The first year the Big12 does not have it in their bowl lineup, the second year it does. So there has to be a second bowl out there that sits in those spots in the PAC and Big12 lineups when the MWC bowl in Los Angeles is not in their lineup.

It could be one of the other MWC bowls ... that is, effectively the MWC agree to one bowl with the Pac-12 and one with the Big12, but for the benefit of variety in the bowl cities (fewer tickets are sold if a team has recently gone to that same city for a bowl), they swap opposing conferences between the two.

Might be interesting to partner with an eastern AAC bowl.

The bowl in Albuquerque is an obvious candidate to also have a MWC team every year and alternate between Pac and B12 teams on the other side.

I was thinking an AAC bowl in the east might make a better pairing. That way, the Big-12 and Pac-12 reps would travel east one year and west the next to completely different bowl destinations.

Just want to point out again, the Christmas Bowl with the MWC vs PAC/Big 12 in rotation is just a proposal from the Christmas Bowl. They don't even seem to have the MWC on board.

I don't know. Fans will travel long distances for major bowls, but I think the minor bowls are best suited for teams that are either within driving distance or a short plane flight. It's hard to expect fans to lay out the cash for a cross-country trip between Christmas and New Year's to support a 6-6 or 7-5 team. Maybe it would work for the bowl in Fort Worth.
