Hmm...

Good move by MVC.

Kill me now

Good move for both. UMKC and denver to the horizon now? I'd throw in UNO too if they want to jump to 12. No idea where youngstown state would jump, can't see the mac wanting another ohio school. Don't really see the need for Loyola in the mvc either now.

What does UIC bring to the MVC other that they are in Chicago? The MVC isnt known for large city urban universities. UIC doesnt fit.

I'd figure you'd want to ride it out until after the Final 4, it's not every day WSU make it there.

RE: UIC to MVC, Oakland to Horizon - uakronkid - 04-04-2013 01:37 PM

UMKC just joined the WAC. Don't see them going to the Horizon.

Recruiting. UIC is in the heart of the City, which makes it real easy for MVC coaches to swing in for the game against UIC and then swing by a couple of the City's high school gyms before leaving town again.

Chicago is all they bring. And less travel for the poorer schools of the conference. And a 4th school in IL. They also bring crap athletics and no fan support.

Does Wichita have to beg to get out of this conference now? Trust me. We're open to just about anything.

Well, i think Chicago is one of the best cities in the country to visit, so they got that factor. Throw in travel partners lineup nicely in the 10 team setup with UIC. AS for UMKC, i still don't get the wac move, think the horizon would be much better for them if they jumped to 12.

For those wondering: UIC/Loy/VU talk to MVC, WSU 2 OVC, YSU 2 CAA, DET/CSU 2 A10. Everyone is looking for an out but MKE and GB.

Wright State talking to OVC - has to be a safety choice.
Youngstown St to CAA - presumably only for football.
Detroit / Cleveland St talking to A10.

Horizon has no interest in IPFW or IUPUI.
Horizon has interest in UMKC and Denver.

Someone who didn't suck in athletics. Especially basketball would be the main thing. Preferably NOT a 4th team in IL. Someone that showed some sort of fan support would be preferable.

The only thing I see that UIC brings is it's located, but irrelevant, in Chicago. Wooptyfreakingdoo

The positive is that Wichita State has outgrown the MVC. Might as well face that fact, as VCU and GMU did with the CAA and Creighton did earlier.

Butler was in the A10 for a year, Denver in the WAC for a year left for the Summit. Horizon>Summit & WAC

I knew it!

UIC made a great move.

RE: UIC to MVC, Oakland to Horizon - exCincy Kid - 04-04-2013 03:11 PM

Great move for UIC...highly questionable for MVC.

This news goes against your theory that the Horizon League is going to win a tug of war against the Summit conference with so many schools looking for the exit.

I don't buy that we'll see to many changes though.
