Today's AP Poll

RE: Rockets are #25 - NewMex RocketFan - 03-04-2013 01:53 PM

Not sure what's up with USA Today Coaches Poll

RE: Rockets are #25 - inductchuck16 - 03-04-2013 02:15 PM

#34 in Coaches poll...good thing rankings don't mean squat in the end.

Just keep winning baby, that's all our Lady Rockets can do. Make it to the BIG DANCE this time.

This week's coach's poll isn't out yet

RE: Rockets are #25 - emanoh - 03-04-2013 02:36 PM

Like Deleware and Green Bay play in conferences any tougher than the MAC? Did't look at their RPI, but their conference schedules can't be full of powerhouses, but maybe their non-conf. schedules were tough. Wish we could have come away with the Dayton win.

Make sure you look hard at the coaches poll. Only 2 teams(3 if you count Dayton) are from a non traditional power conference. Delaware(17 RPI, 76 SOS) and Green Bay(21 RPI, 126 SOS) are it. Then there is Toledo(45 RPI, 222 SOS). Our RPI actually dropped after defeating EMU. The strength of schedule matters to the powers that be, the MAC is terrible this year on the women's side( also on the Men's side as well). Check out how the rest of the conference stacks up, its absolutely terrible. When you have to play Kent St who has a 303 SOS and they are still 3-25, thats enough to burst the proverbial "bubble", Toledo is the only 20 win team in the conference currently(not good with only this week to go in the season!). Toledo better win the MAC Tourney, or they face playing in the WNIT again!

East Division
100 Bowling Green 10-5 18-9
119 Akron 11-4 19-8
160 Miami (OH) 9-6 16-11
267 Buffalo 8-7 10-18
322 Ohio 1-14 6-21
339 Kent St. 1-14 3-25

West Division
45 Toledo 14-1 26-2
78 Cent. Michigan 11-4 17-11
190 Ball St. 12-3 15-13
232 East. Michigan 6-9 8-20
259 West. Michigan 5-10 9-19
271 Northern Illinois 2-13 7-22

Good observation. Its difficult to see the NCAA picking any MAC team for an at large invitation.

At their best, the top MAC teams aren't bad though. CMU lost to ND by 9. Toledo is obviously very good. Ball State is playing different basketball now. And Akron is one of the highest scoring teams in the nation. CMU is slumping, BSU had a bad OOC season, and Akron just didn't play anyone, with a 40 point loss to Dayton. Toledo has an outside shot of an at large with a loss in the championship game. But slim slim chances.

Win the tourney and an at-large becomes a moot point----besides it is the only guaranteed path to the NCAA tourney for UT. If they lose a single game (tonight or in the tourney) they will fall like a rock in the polls to point of maybe not even getting votes-----they are not going to be treated like some SEC or ACC or Big 12 team that loses and only drops 1 or 2 spots in the poll.

I agree that one loss will sink their ranking and the RPI and most likely eliminate any change for an at large invitation to the NCAA.

You know, I don't think anyone's suggesting that we shouldn't win the MAC tournament. People are merely speculating on what may happen if we don't.

If people want to speculate about losing I guess that is OK but my thoughts are that the Lady Rockets have proved that they are the best team in the conference, they appear to be peaking at the right time, they should have the "home crowd" advantage in Cleveland and they are favored to win, so why even consider losing at this point? There would be absolutely nothing positive to salvage from a loss, so why even dwell on the possibility at this point? This is their year so think positive!

They're going to win because I just booked my hotel room for the 15th! I should say my wife did, because my choice was on the bed bug registry, but that's a different story.
