12th game or no 12th game - fanofallthatisjmu - 02-14-2013 04:35 PM

Posted on the other board but thought I would bring it over here as well

I do not care if we have a 12th game or not. More football is nice but it would have to be a home game.

Thinking about it some more, I like having the 2 bye weeks this year; mainly because of how they are situated

We play 3 games(CCSU, @Akron, StFrancis) and then have a bye. We are implementing a whole new offense. After 3 games, having that bye week before getting into conference play can help us work out any kinks it may have and give Mumme more time to work the players, now that he has seen them in game action.

We then have 3 more games (@Delanowhere, Albany, RU) preceding our 2nd bye on Oct 19th. Three games in, we know where every player stands and how the offense is progressing. Enough time to make any tweaks needed. Also allows are players to rest up before the stretch (and hopefully playoff) run.

This year, with the way our schedule plays out and already having 6 home games, will not be too disappointed if there is not a 12th game

What are your thoughts?

I actually like the two bye weeks. And they seem to be strategically placed. I can understand the desire for more football, but I would rather have a healthier team going into the playoffs than a banged up team going into the playoffs, which may or may not happen anyway.

i haven't said it on the zone because it seems to be "popular" to want a 12th game, but i personally couldn't care less if we do or don't get the 12th game. win the games we have on the schedule and we'll be in the playoffs. that's what matters most. 8-4 is better than 7-4, but 7-4 is better than 7-5.
We would have to schedule a win and then people would complain that it's "not a good opponent".

Yea - I'm good with schedule too. The byes work out well for the team but I also have a selfish reason - planning on going to Akron and all the home games - and I'll watch the others on Madizone or TV, when available. One more game yanking me away from the chores around the house would probably push my wife over the edge!

I said I'm not a big fan of a 12th game, but mainly cause I want us to be eyeing a run in the playoffs again. As I mentioned then, that's an NFL season if you make the semis or finals.

And Foati's breaking it down made all the more reason for me. It's two breaks that can really play a part if important guys are banged up,and they come at very opportune times. So, honestly, leave it alone. We still have 6 home games, so no loss there, this could size up to be a pretty good scheduling fluke.
