Hawk with some Facebook Gold - SilentStryk09 - 02-12-2013 07:35 AM

Coach Hawkins just posted this on facebook:

"Have had a chance to watch a lot of basketball over past couple of weeks, on my team, teams we play, and on TV. And the conclusion I came to a few years ago still holds true; I don't trust referees who have more hair spray than my wife or are more tan than my wife."

Cute line and probably true. I assure at least one MAC official will read that and he'll forward the link, or tell some other refs, and before you know it they'll all have knowledge of it. For a guy who is not liked by the officials already, he needs every edge he can get. Doubt this will work to our advantage.

He sounds jealous because he's a bullet head, agree though, stupid thing to put "out there". Check that ip address, is it from the Roadhouse' public wi fi? That'd explain a lot. JK!!!

Think it, but don't openly frost the very people who can make or break you that way.

Watch, now that'll be used as an excuse if things don't work out. "The refs hated me". 03-melodramatic

RE: Hawk with some Facebook Gold - Hiller4Hyz09 - 02-12-2013 01:29 PM

Maybe he should censor his posts like he does his wife's.

RE: Hawk with some Facebook Gold - WheresWaldo42 - 02-12-2013 01:33 PM

Considering that he generally spends more time whining to the refs during the game than actually coaching during the game, this doesnt surprise me at all.

In general does refereeing in the college game suck? Absolutely. Does potentially antagonizing them when you are already a whiny b!tch help? Absolutely not.

Get him another round

Well...he must have liked that comment because he just tweeted it as well.

Go ahead fellas have a field day.

You fellas act as if he is the only coach in sport to talk to the refs that way. I'll say at least he doesn't try and save little ole ladies by throwing a chair halfway across the floor. I guess BK wasn't that good of a coach either.

Always proud to be a Bronco.

Acer, you forgot the following...

they were dead silent until the 7 game winning streak ended.

When you're at the next Technical Foul Club meeting, or whatever it's called, can you ask him if he thinks this stuff works to his advantage.

As predictable as your remarks

I have a pretty hard time believing Gene Steratore reads Steve Hawkins facebook page, and then proceeds by calling an unbalanced game the next time he officiates a WMU game. Now if they're actually 'facebook friends' then I hope Steratore doesn't take George Carlin quotes to heart either, otherwise he might get deeply offended.

RE: Hawk with some Facebook Gold - thegeneral - 02-12-2013 03:01 PM

Hawk is an idiot.

There is absolutely no reason to post that. As much as Fleck's #rowtheboat is annoying, it's the way social media works these days.

I LOVE candor on twitter/facebook, but you have to be smart enough to know the line.

If he was an NBA coach, he'd be fined $50k.

RE: Hawk with some Facebook Gold - thegeneral - 02-12-2013 03:10 PM

LOL, Hawk's last three tweets:

11:40 PM - 9 Feb 13: "Frustrating night at Ball St. Onward and upward though. No time to pout. Concentration all on next game. #resilient"
11:08 PM - 11 Feb 13: "Still frustrated..."
1:31 PM - 12 Feb 13: "I don't trust referees that use more hairspray than my wife or are more tan than my wife."

I'll summarize:
"Not going to pout"
"Pout"
"Pout"

RE: Hawk with some Facebook Gold - Chipdip - 02-12-2013 03:19 PM

Ask yourself Hawk..............."What would the Wizard do?"

Ah, Wooden was known to be pretty tough on the officials AND very effective at manipulating them.

RE: Hawk with some Facebook Gold - DesertBronco - 02-12-2013 03:33 PM

Ah, Wooden's pyramid of success is almost all about accountability and integrity. You know, like NOT SNIVELING and blaming refs for your problems. Where do you think that statement made by Hawkins would fit in here?

Also, how do you think his saying that aligns with this statement by another successful coach at WMU?

Quote:We needed to be better at the start then what we were. I always take responsibility, and that’s my job.

I thought it was "Old Jock Sniffers Club"?

Oh I get it, we've turned into professional Twitter interpreters.

I'll make this plain and simple for everyone.

Do I think the comment was dumb? Yes

Do I find it telling that his biggest critics pop up AFTER a 7 game winning streak ends and jump all over a dumb twitter comment? Yes. The agenda of some can't be served when we are winning.
