Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - Memphis Blazer - 12-26-2012 09:57 PM

Is the Summitt a good place to watch it? Any better theatre?

Summit is good Rave in Hoover or Vestavia would be better

RE: Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - BTR - 12-26-2012 10:57 PM

Saw it tonight in Lima :) I can recommend the best theater here :)

If you are in northeast Jefferson County, the theater in Trussville is ok.

whereever you see it, empty your bladder before going in as it's long

RE: Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - Memphis Blazer - 12-26-2012 11:21 PM

thanks guys. Going to see it at the Rave in Hoover. Is IMAX worth it? I've seen IMAX documentaries, but never an actual movie. How much more is it and is it worth the expense.

RE: Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - the_blazerman - 12-26-2012 11:26 PM

Haven't been to an IMAX movie, just IMAX stuff at the Tennessee Aquarium, etc.

I would guess it is like the 3D movies.

I saw the final Harry Potter movie in 3D & didn't have any issue paying a few more dollars for it.

the only Imax i know of in Birmingham is the McWane Center downtown

RE: Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - Memphis Blazer - 12-27-2012 12:05 AM

The Rave in Hoover advertises the Hobbitt in IMAX at 2:30

RE: Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - Dracorex - 12-27-2012 12:08 AM

I know its late but see it in 3d otherwise it looks bad in parts

Imax I'm apathetic about

The premiere in mccalla has nicer seats and is always less crowded but doesn't have Imax screens

I actually preferred 2D. 3D isn't worth it to me and if you get motion sickness easily you might have difficulty with the 3D HFR.

I saw The Dark Knight Rises in IMAX and it was probably the best experience I've ever had at a theater. It's usually a bit more, especially if you're paying for multiple people.

It's worth it if you get there early and get a good seat. The experience from the middle of the theater is awesome, if you get there late and are stuck at the bottom or side it isn't worth the extra $$$

it took a few minutes to get used to it but i really liked the 3D 48fps version i saw. im not a huge IMAX fan - it can be too much going on at times

There aren't any 48fps theaters in Birmingham though.

Only 48fps theaters in Alabama are in Huntsville and I believe there's one in Florence.

Up here, IMAX adds about five bucks to the ticket price. You can save the money by sitting down front.

I saw it at the Talladega Carmike theater and it costs less than the Bham theaters. If you come on a Tuesday, you get Popcorn for $1.50 and a Coke for $1.50 as an added bonus.

Awesome movie in IMAX. I felt like I was right there in Middle Earth (although I May be a little dealer)

And I almost broke out in a UAB chant at the end.

RE: Going to see the Hobbit in Birmingham - Smaug - 12-27-2012 08:11 PM

Doesn't the end just piss you off that you have to wait a year for the next movie?
