Either that or a MAC team,

We're not playing 12 BCS teams a year. That's nuts.

I expect SU to continue the common practice of hosting one FCS opponent annually, which SU didn't really begin until the 2008 season. In recent years we have played Maine and Rhode Island, and this year we will play Stony Brook. Apparently, Villanova has been lined up for 2014.

Albany and Stony Brook's move to the CAA and the Patriot League's move to scholarship football will vastly increase the number of available FCS opponents within an easy travel distance. Albany and SB move to the CAA for 2013. Albany should reach 60 scholarships by the 2015 season. The Patriot League begins phasing in scholarships beginning with the 2013 season, and should reach full scholarship play by 2016. I'd try to schedule Albany in 2015 and Colgate in 2016. After that, focus on scheduling Patriot League and CAA opponents. Combined, they should provide at least 10 prospective opponents within 300 driving mile, including 5 within 200 driving miles.

I prefer we leave the FCS programs off the schedule (except maybe Colgate a couple times per decade). I like being one of the few schools that traditionally has refuse to play scrub teams to pad a record. If we scheduled like everyone else, we'd be a top 10 all time wins team. We have a history of playing any decent team. Guys I work with always remember that Syracuse plays the big boys and, win or lose, does not shirk away from anyone.

I second this. If we need a break in our schedule, we should play Army or something. There isn't a lot of honor in beating a FCS team, and we usually look like cr*p doing it, because we play at their level. Also, it sucks for exposure, and that is incredibly valuable.
