Sun Belt Travelers - Jag89 - 05-11-2012 04:32 PM

So, as newcomers to SBC Football, what should USA expect from visiting members? How many games a year do the band and cheerleaders typically travel to?

Out of this years Jags schedule, I can see Troy bringing at least 5,000. A 3 hour drive and a good many alumni in the Mobile/Penscola area. Plus the band I hope. I've heard great things about the SOTS and look forward to the battle of the bands!

I hear MT travels pretty well but would they bring many fans for a 7 hour drive? Again, I hear great things about their band, but would they travel for this one?

Given the distance, I don't see many FAU or FIU fans coming to Mobile.

For away games this year, I can only see the ULL games as a popular trip and maybe 1,000 Jag fans or more attending. Sounds like the tailgating and atmosphere are great there.

You can expect the BTH crew this season when Troy travels to South. the game is actually on my son's first birthday, hopefully he'll get a great bday present from Coach Blakeney and the boys. 03-thumbsup

TROY sends the cheerleaders to every away game. The full Sound of the South makes at least 2 away games a year, possibly more, it depends on the distance. This year I see the full SOTS going to UAB, South, and MTSU. The Chancellor loves our band and wants them to be heard. We also have the SOTS Pep Band which makes the long trips to FIU, FAU, UNT, WKU, and Arkansas State. So usually a band is present at most away games for TROY.

TROY fans travel pretty well. We always bring a huge crowd to UAB and MTSU. I see us traveling VERY well to Mobile this year and I can't wait for the TROY/South rivalry!

What is the parking like at Troy for guests?
My crew is planning on tailgating for that one in 2013.

I plan on going to the UL game but no tailgating.
Going to visit some family in Crowley and they shoot over to Laffytown for the game.

Here's the Sound of the South destroying the Florida band. I'm pretty sure we blew the pressbox back a few feet.

It's a first come first serve scenario my friend. There's no designated parking lot for visitors, grab it and growl. You'll want to get on campus early so you can find a spot, especially since you are not familiar with the campus and will be at a disadvantage because of that.

I'd tell you where I park, but then you may get my spot. 03-thumbsup

You are however welcome to stop by my tent and say hello. I'll put a cold one in your hand and we can chat for a bit if you like.

Troy tailgating is very good. I wouldn't compare us to Louisiana's, but our entire campus lights up and is one giant party. No thru-traffic, lots of activities, and everyone is crowded together sharing strong Trojan pride. You'll enjoy it, it is a true college town atmosphere.

I will probably attend nearly every Louisiana @ Troy game here on out since going to flight school at Rucker. Still have some great friends in the Enterprise area so free place to stay is always a plus.

Rucker is not even 20 minutes from my house.

I did annual flight training in Dothan for about five years and loved the area. Even had a couple of flights to Troy who's airport has potential, especially being controlled. Did you get to TOI much? Was gratified to see they had an ILS.

There will be fluctuations depending on how good each school's team is that particular year as well as when the game is played both in relation to early or late in the schedule as well as Saturday vs weeknight, but I predict over the years you'll consistently see the most fans from:

1)Troy
2)Cajuns
3)MT

I heard UNT was expecting to bring 15k+ to every road game this fall, sales already confirmed through ticket office.

We avoided TOI as mush as possible because their FBO was not on par with Andalusia/Opp or Florala. They do have a huge hangar that some guy has a DC3, B-17 and a P-51 talk about a nice collection of aircraft.

Dang. Wish I had taken the time to take a look around...

ASU will bring a decent crowd for our games on the road. We traveled like crazy to Mobile for the bowl, and supposedly different fan groups will be taking a bus to every game this year.

Most of our big fans try to make 1 road game per year if possible. But we still dont travel as well as MTSU does.

I want to attend the ASU vs USA game.

My wife has redflagged any away games over 8 hours distant.
I quickly showed her a google map of Pensacola to Memphis, said "See 7 hours 45 minutes.", and then minimized the screen.
My evil plan may work.
