"MTSU athletic director Chris Massaro would not comment specifically about CUSA today, but he acknowledged that the university and athletic department administration have actively and aggressively pursued other conference affiliations."

Along with every other AD in the SBC, and still are, even the newbie's.

We'll see. It could be that ODU is backing out or it could be that the MTSU administration is trying to show the faithful that they tried before the faithful have a riot.

SBC is a precarious stack of cards right now, thus the time-out by Benson, and could very well lose 1-2-3-4 more teams, counting the newbies ,this go-around.

Bension, who should be kept away from any place he can jump-off of and hurt himself, can’t go forward because he does not know who he has on board.

ODU is having a tough time pulling the trigger. Don't listen to Seminole.

I'm not listening to him. But its pretty clear MTSU is ready to riot on their President.

I wouldn't be so sure. I wouldn't put it past our AD to have stopped all efforts as soon as we got an invite. Good enough seems to be good enough with her.

Don't want to see MTSU go, if they went who would the Sun Belt replace them with?

This is standard for Seminole. You get accustomed to it.

Getting an invite to CUSA is becoming less and less appealing every day. How could fans be jealous when they are adding the teams they are adding? It is becoming the WAC East.

What 1-2-3-4 teams could the Sun Belt lose?

RE: #14 Down to ODU and MTSU - AlaIllTex - 05-04-2012 03:31 PM

I can't see much of an alternative UNLESS ODU has a bid from both the MAC and the A10 for other sports. And I'd choose CUSA over that arrangement. If they tell CUSA no and they want to make the move later, it will be very difficult or impossible to do so. They could say no, I dont see them doing so.

I'm thinking more along these lines - this is damage control. The CUSA ship has sailed.

I don't know if we'll ever know how it went down, but I think the MT Admin did a terrible job at trying to communicate to it's fan base what it was trying to do.

Precarious stack of cards? You do understand there is absolutely no chance that ASU, ULL, ULM, Troy, and USA go anywhere right? None of us offer anything to other conferences because market size is driving expansion.

We're in better shape then just about every other conference in football. We can expand easily within the footprint, and have several schools ready and willing to come.

RE: #14 Down to ODU and MTSU - ark30inf - 05-04-2012 03:38 PM

Just imagine if all the SBC Presidents had stuck together and said they were going nowhere. We would be picking over the carcass of CUSA now instead of the other way around.

Dumb.

I'd think you'd have to look at NMSU as much as you guys don't want to. At least they'll replace the basektball and FBS football and then can pull App st. and Ga So when they are ready. Denver may not leave as the WAC won't have any eligible teams to pull from in time to save it.

Denver can bite me.

Denver's out. THey knew what they were getting into the minute they joined in the first place. Good luck in the Big West.

I agree that's pretty much it for other potential FBS invites, and I don't think that's a better deal. Sure basketball is better, but they are giving up on huge drawing football games for them like us, Charlotte, and Marshall. Terry Holland has gone way out on a limb for them, and I fully believe since their invite just very recently came they have to go through the whole dog and pony show before they can accept.

C-USA could say the exact same thing regarding the BE each time they were raided, but that's not the way this stuff works. Either way I think you guys are going to be keeping MTSU. ODU is going to realize this is the best opportunity they will ever get to be FBS, and it gets them in a football league with us, which is a big deal for them. Games between the 2 of us will be huge draws.

I agree i don't want Denver to stay.
