OT: Braves game last night - MTPiKapp - 05-03-2012 11:21 AM

Anyone watch that?

Hallady vs Hanson, clear advantage Philly, but sets up to be a duel regardless, especially considering the offensive woes in Philly.

Phils go up 6-0 by the 5th inning and with Halladay on the mound there's no way the Braves win that game, right? Wrong. Braves put up a 6 spot on Halladay in the bottom of the 5th capped off by a grand slam by McCann. They then put up 2 more in the 6th to go up 8-6 and chase Halladay. Braves give up a 3 run homer in the 7th to go down 9-8 and then give up three more in the 8th to go down 12-8. What do the Braves do? Put up a 5 spot in the bottom of the 8th to go up 13-12 and bring in reigning rookie of the year Kimbrel to close the game and he blows the save, game is tied 13-13. Bottom 11 up steps Chipper and on a 2-2 count puts a ball in the cheap seats, but just foul, he then manages to lay off a high fast ball to get a full count, next pitch he drives into the right center seats. Final score Braves 15 Phllies 13.

I love college football and I love my Blue Raiders, but there's just something about a great baseball game that's hard to beat and in a generation where many of the top players careers are tarnished by steroids, Chipper is clean and an all time great. First ballot HOF.

One of the most entertaining games I've ever seen.
Former Jag Juan Pierre almost ruined it for the good guys when he tied the game up in the 9th.

Chipper Jones was my favorite player growing up. I still have my baseball card collection that includes a lot of Chipper Jones cards. He has been playing for the Braves since I started following baseball as a kid. I'll probably start to feel old when he retires after this year. I didn't get to see the game last night but I read about it and it sounded like a great game.

A truly amazing game. I almost changed channels when Halladay got staked to a 6-run lead, damn glad I didn't! Chipper's walk-off HR was awesome and to make it even better, he missed a walk-off HR on a ball about 2 feet foul earlier in the at-bat. Very rare to see a guy square up two pitches that well in one at-bat and straighten it out, especially with the game on the line.

On a side note, F that Carlos Ruiz guy! Jesus, he owns us. 7 RBI and a HR last night, he had 10 RBI on the season coming in.

Braves have looked pretty damn good this year so far. Great win last night.

I changed the channel about 3 times last night, but turned it back just in time for the big plays. It was a great game!

Not only that, but he laid off a high fastball that didn't miss by much in between the foul ball and the home run. Taking that pitch could not have been easy.

I've never been to Cooperstown, Braves fans are going to have a lot of reasons to go over the next decade with Maddux(eligible 2014), Glavine(eligible 2014), Smoltz(eligible 2015) Cox(eligible next class I believe), and Jones(2017).

I'd like to make at least one of those.

I miss not being able to watch the Braves anymore on TBS...Grew up in BG watching the Braves on TV and also listening on radio..In BG you were either Cubs, Reds, or Braves fans...Glad I am a Braves fan!!! I usually go up to Cincy to watch them play but will not be able to this season since they play mid week....

I was there. It was crazy watching Papelbon get up and down, up and down, all night. Close game, then Phillies up big, close game, then Braves up big.

I thought Chipper was going to get it done earlier an AB earlier though.

Pretty sure Cox, Maddux, and Glavine are all the same year. I wish it would have been Smoltz too (though I'm doubt he's a first ballot guy).

Pretty sure Cox falls under the 65+ manager/ump/exec rule which makes him eligible 6 months from retirement, so I think he could go in 2013.

Nevermind, looks like 2014 after all. The manager rules are strange, I think he's technically eligible by the 65+ rule, but post 1972 managers are only eligible for election in even years or something like that.
