Conference USA fans help me. So who is actually going to what confernce. - TrojanCampaign - 05-01-2012 11:18 PM

I seem to have missed something today....I just saw that conference USA was adding maybe six teams? UNCC, ODU, UNT, UTSA, FIU, and La Tech?

So the merger was off, then a AD came and said it was still on, and if conference USA goes to 14 I'm pretty sure the merger is off.

Is there going to be an actual valid announcement?

Yeah but ODU may be chickening out which opens the whole mess up again.

And apparently Greg Swaim is tweeting that Mount Olympus may be rumbling and that one of the Big Boys might start the whole thing over at the top. Louisville, Cincinnatti, FSU, Clemson, VaTech mentioned.

Conventional wisdom is utep and utsa will go to the mwc once uncc and odu are ready to move up. That gives both conferences 12 members. If the merger does not happen we stay at 14 or look at going to 16

I'd be shocked if ODU really did decide not to come.

It looks like the name of the game for this 4 game playoff is SOS. So the conferences are now going to do what they can to improve it.

The craziest thing that could happen is if the B12 goes to 14 in 2014 taking FSU/Clemson/VT/Louisville.

This would cause the ACC to pick up at least one team (likely USF) to get back to 12 and at that point they might as well add UCONN & Rutgers as they are the only remaining biger programs on the coast.

That would likely be the point where the BE BB schools would split from the FB schools. This would put the nBE down to Cincinnati as the only 2011 member remaining along with Temple, UCF, Memphis, BSU, SD St, Houston, SMU & Navy needing 3 more to get to 12 (which is their goal for better travel). Adding Air Force and Fresno St are the 2 best options (BYU already said no) but then they would need 1 team that would fit in with Cincinnati, Temple, Memphis, UCF & Navy...but that only takes care of divisions for football. Three teams are FB only so either they will have to invite 3 non-FB schools, go to 14 in FB with 1 non-FB school OR they go to 16 in FB with at least 12 in BB.

After all of this is the B1G going to sit back or are they going to invite 2 AAU schools like Kansas and Maryland? (Making a guess that Weis will improve Kansas fooball)

Then what about the P-12. They can't be the only 12 team big boy conference.

That would likely start the 15th round of this.

From what I can tell, AS THINGS STAND NOW, CUSA will look like this:

East: Marshall, ECU, Charlotte, ODU, USM, FIU, UAB

West: UTEP, Rice, Tulane, LA Tech, UNT, UTSA, Tulsa

Now if UTEP jumps ship, that would put us at an even 12. Don't know if we'd expand past that unless the BE raids us again.05-mafia

I thought 14-1=13?

14 in CUSA...10 in MWC...24 total teams...doubt it will be a "merger" more of an "alliance"

as for the Big 12...they want BYU and ND to go to 12 teams...if they don't come on...Texas wants to stay at 10.

They may want ND but that is not happening. Louisville has been gone to the B12 since WVU left

seems nobody told that to the Big 12...

I don't think everyone will be situated for awhile. There's simply no reason that every conference shouldn't have a conference championship game with 12 members minimum in each league. Texas may think they rule the roost but the bottom line is if these other conferences keep cashing in on title games, all the others will get sick of losing that cash. That opens the door for more movement. Remember, there is zero loyalty to anyone in the Big 12, and even Texas themselves could decide that not having aTm to beat up on yearly to get more donations in could become a problem.

That'd be nice to make $20 mil a year from TV

^ that doesn't even take into account what UT will make of their "longhorn network"
