Affluent Mexicans Can Buy American Citizenship With EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa - SumOfAllFears - 06-04-2011 08:40 AM

Affluent Mexican Families Move Permanently to the USA via the EB-5

Increasingly Mexico’s affluent families are using the EB-5 immigrant investor visa as the best route to achieve permanent residency in the USA as quickly as possible. Many have said that they view the EB-5 as a means of buying their families a new lifestyle and an escape from the terrible violence caused by the criminal gangs who pose such a threat to their safety and lives in Mexico.

The EB-5 visa requires investment of $500,000 in one of a number of regional centers that have been approved by the US government to attract foreign investment and create jobs in America. In return for investing $500,000, usually for a minimum period of five years, applicants receive green cards for themselves, their spouse and all their unmarried children under 21. After five years they are able to become US citizens.

The EB-5 visa is seen by many immigrants as preferential to other more risky options such as the E2 and L1 visas which require them to buy businesses in the USA but do not provide the benefits of permanent residency and require unending renewals. The problem with the E2 and L1 visa is also that once children turn 21 they could face deportation back to Mexico, whereas the EB-5 provides permanent residency.

The EB-5 visa only requires that the $500,000 has been lawfully earned; there are no educational, qualification or language requirements. Successful applicants are free to live, work, retire or study wherever they wish to in the USA and certainly a number of Mexican EB-5 visa holders have decided to operate their business in Mexico and live in the USA which they are free to do.

Confidentiality and discretion are critical considerations for Mexican visa applicants and therefore the choice of a specialist immigration company to advise them on the EB-5 visa is very important. Many Mexican nationals have very real fears of jeopardizing family members and businesses in Mexico. Coverage of the problems faced by wealthy Mexicans has been reported in a number of newspaper articles.

In recent newspaper interviews two Mexican businessmen recounted an escalating series of extortion plots, kidnappings and death threats against their families. As part of an extortion attempt six months ago, someone placed a funeral wreath at one of the businessman’s home doorstep bearing the name of his youngest daughter. That persuaded them to move.

“I had money in the bank. I had a big house. I have buildings and properties in Mexico City,” a husband and father of two young children, said through an interpreter. ” ”This is all about my kids.”

“The scale is larger than anything we have seen in 80 years,” said former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros, a businessman whose family fled to San Antonio from Mexico in the 1920s. “The reason is Calderón’s decision to fight against the drug dealers and the violence,” he said. “Because of the situation, these Mexicans are looking for another option to live.”

Some people moving from Mexico show the marks of kidnapping, torture and extortion. They are missing fingers or an ear, cut off by kidnappers eager to up the size and speed of ransom payments.

77 Another family is reported as saying that kidnappers released a son with a message cut into his chest that read: “Next time, when we say $500,000, we mean $500,000.” Another wealthy businessman talked of captors who had forced him to spend 35 days in an underground tank before payment of a ransom freed him.

An immigration lawyer said he has worked on hundreds of E visa applications over the past two years. Some clients have had their fingers chopped off; others are sick of paying huge monthly extortion fees to keep their families safe.

Given these circumstances there seems little wonder why there has been such an increase in the popularity of among Mexican families who want to obtain permanent residency in the USA for their families in the quickest possible time.

Immigrants who can fend for themselves and contribute are far more desirable than those who will be a drain. Pretty much how the whole world views immigration. That's why we will always be stuck with you Robert.
