Louisiana vs Southern 42K +

an unbiased eye clearly shows a vast majority of red at Cajun Field. Have a great day and best of luck to Tech!!

Ok southerns colors are black and baby blue, of which sixty percent of that stadium clearly is. RED sticks out and I can promise you there are no more than 20k red clad fans in that stadium. This picture really only proves the point. and for the sake of realizing that some red might be sporatically spattered in all that black and blue, I will give ULL a 22k benifit of the doubt.

RE: For our La Tech friends - theATLDawg - 02-16-2011 02:48 PM

you have proven the point that yes you can sell out a stadium with McNEese and Southern fans. Tech could do the same thing with Grambling in Ruston. What is sad is that we keep talking about how we should play ULM but the game has never sold out either stadium. Now if we renewed it for the first year it might do well but after that ULM clearly has no interest in another Tech beatdown. Hell ULL brought 2k to Ruston last time we played them. We brought close to 4k to Auburn for god sake. Where is all this interest from fans that you guys keep talking about. If ULM can't bring more than 7k fans 30miles really why bother.

We have the SBC record for conference game attendance. We had over 29,000 for an FIU game a couple years ago. Why? We won a few games and were expecting T. Fenroy to go over 1000 yards for the 4th straight year in that game. It was homecoming.

We started out 3-14 this season in basketball. We are now bringing in several thousand a game and are expecting 6,000 Thursday night and 7,000 Saturday night.....for conference games. Why? We have won several in a row and have a shot at the division title.

We lead the SBC in baseball attendance nearly every year, and our Softball attendance is ludicrous.

The point is that WE have fans, and WE have the potential to be near the top in combined attendance of the major sports compared to other non-BCS schools in the very near future.

That is something that you guys will NEVER be able to claim.

RE: For our La Tech friends - theATLDawg - 02-16-2011 03:40 PM

look I think two things are going to help your attendance. Your new coach should start winning so I think you should regularly pull around 20-23k. The potential is there because of the population of Lafayette. Of course you have to fight the fact that LSU should be good again. It would really help if Les Miles continues to put out a mediocre product. Lafayette not only loses fans to the actual game but to the TV set. I know of actual kids IN school at ULL that will sit at home with a beer and BBQ watching LSU/Alabama while ULL is actually playing a block away. I have said many times that ULL should try to schedule away from LSU at least in time of day being played but as many have said, it's a little hot sometimes during the day. and as far as your continued tarp arguement, it's lame. It's advertiseing space being sold for an area that is clearly not going to be used. Sounds pretty smart to me. La Tech has a direct goal. Become THE school or a strong second to LSU, of N. Louisiana. I think we are making inroads there. All ULL has to do is capture the Lafayette market from LSU. It's not impossible for either of us but winning is the key. Your baseball and potential basketball is a prime example of how well you do when you capture the Lafayette audience. There are enough baseball fans to support both LSU and ULL. and of course nobody actually gives a crap about LSU basketball which leaves many Lafayette fans to fill the Cajun dome. If you start winning again. When our basketball team was good last year, we started to bring about 4k and a little above but I don't see that getting any bigger unless we become a Gonzaga,ie; consistent winner. Our women's team used to average 7k when they were a powerhouse, so it proves that even in rural areas, fans will come if you win.

No would rather get Navy to Ruston and play on TV than take off the tarps for 27k with a game that noone outside of our area will care about. You can't grow your program without TV. We are on TV alot. but yes that might change with the new WAC. We have one for ones with alot of high profile teams. Look at the 1/1 that MT or even S. Alabama and UTSA are bringing in. ULL gets 1/1 with MAC teams. You couldn't even get a 1/1 with USM. you might get 40k in the stadium to watch MCNeese or Southern and you might get to brag about it, but it does nothing to grow your program. Look at the amount of people that turned out to watch you play A&M in Lafayette. That's what the fans and recruits want to see in Lafayette. Not Southern. That just grows their program.

sorry Z but the student culture at La Tech is very anti LSU. Lafayette and ULL students are very pro LSU. You have a much bigger problem with this than we do. I am not saying it doesn't exist at Tech but nearly as bad as it is in Lafayette.

and your recruiting in football this year was only marginally better than ours.... you cant get squat to a mens basketball game even on the rare occassion that you field a winning team...NO ONE, I mean NADA goes to see basbeball... Your football team was below mediocre for the last couple of years. The one year in recent history that you went to the I-bowl, we would have throttled you guys....(if tooley wouldnt have threatened them...oh well)

So what does your post prove?

Much love and happiness...

This goes on at every (gasp)mid-major university in the country. Even this stupid back forth bickering between two (gasp)mid-major schools within the same state. I've had this very argument with Memphis fans about students of both of our schools skipping our own events in order to watch UTK. They claim that the majority of our students are UTK fans and UTK fans can't be found on their campus which simply isn't true. There are UTK fans on both campuses and their are students on both campuses that cannot stand the Vols.

I assure you that the directional Michigan schools argue who has less Michigan and/or Michigan State fans on their campus. FAU and FIU fans argue over who has less UF/FSU/Miami students on their campus...etc etc.

Well I think it's a stupid argument, but it's one that I admitted to having been a part of before. Not only that, though it may have been indirectly, I was pointing to the La Tech fan as the one being really stupid. After all Z, you aren't the one arguing that your school is almost entirely absolved from the issue. The La Tech fans and the Memphis fans are the really dumb ones. You and I both recognize an admit that we suffer with this problem at our schools, they are the ones saying that somehow it just doesn't apply to them.
