Wait a second! - Fanof49ASU - 08-20-2010 08:08 AM

Utah St was invited with Nevada and Fresno?
And the offer still stands?

http://www.utahstateaggies.com/genrel/081910aab.html

The WAC may fail without the SBC doing anything.

RE: Wait a second! - arkstfan - 08-20-2010 08:18 AM

My guess is that if BYU stays, USU is #12.
If BYU leaves there is no longer an offer.

Go ahead shut down the MWC raid of CUSA rumor mill.

As USU "declined" the invite from the MWC, they may have screwed themselves over to be a member with BYU in the WAC. Depending on how mad the MWC is with BYU, they may not let them back (or BYU may not want back). Either way, that declination by USU of the MWC invite may be a one-way ticket back to D-IAA. 03-weeping 03-hissyfit 03-weeping

Those A.D.'s comments sound as if USU is taking ownership of the WAC (a.k.a the U.S.S. Titanic)

As was mentioned, the offer may still stand. In that case USU is master of their own destiny right now.

And the WAC's.

IMO, BYU stays put now. I just can't see them make this complete blunder of affiliating with the WAC in any way since Nevada and Fresno ST. leaves.

No, the WAC is dead to them. The real question is; is the bridge back to the MWC burned to them? If not, they go home with their tails between their legs. But do the other MWC members invite their co-conspirators to join them....I think not.

If independence made sense on Wednesday, it makes sense today. Difference is now the WCC wants them.

These egos are bound to come into play.....more likely sooner than later.

The offer was declined. Unless there is a 'second' offer...they're screwed. As is coming to light, USU appears to be the main co-conspirator in the BYU to the WAC story. If that's the case (and all the presidents know whether it is or not), they may have made some real enemies with their MWC neighbors.

I would not want to be USU's A.D. right now.

USU was used by BYU. USU was pushing for BYU basketball in the WAC.

Will that defense fly with a bunch of angry MWC members? Ask Wyoming how they felt being on the verge of extinction. I think they're going to be pretty p.o.'d. Could be wrong though (I'm sure the MWC blogosphere is upset with them).

The WCC might be an even better fit since there are a few religious schools in the group. The basketball is better than the WAC right now.

RE: Wait a second! - RaiderATO - 08-20-2010 10:07 AM

BYU hasn't left. They don't have to beg to get back in if they haven't gone anywhere.

The only thing that has changed since Wed. is they'd go to the WCC (13 RPI) instead of the WAC (10 RPI). The WCC is even more willing to let BYU in than the WAC.

Do Fresno and Nevada add anything to the conference that would benefit BYU? I don't think so. They think they can be Notre Dame of the West. I think they can do it. Over time they'll get similar hype (probably more deserved) if not just for their novelty as being free agents of college football.

If by "a few" you mean "all" yeah there a few religious schools in the WCC. :)

That's what I meant - more evidence that sarcasm rarely translates on the internet.

I wouldn't discount BYU to the Big 12 just yet either.

If they didn't offer them back when everything was going down for them earlier this summer, I don't know why they would right now.
