Boogie Yates
Nate Rohnert
Tyren Johnson
Gantt or Taylor from FAU (I'd leave it to them to decide)
Slaughter

I don't mean to leave out Marvin Roberts from FIU, but I wouldn't take him over Johnson or Yates. Similarly, Hazzard can score like a maniac, but I think Slaughter, Rohnert, and Gantt/Taylor all match his scoring ability while bringing more to the table, all around.

Wow, everyone of you picked Slaughter. I know the rules are you can't pick someone from your own team, but in all sincerity I would take about four guards in this league over him right now. Part of Slaughter's problem is that there is no other consistent outside threat on our team to draw heat off of him, but he has not responded well to the extra attention he has gotten this season.

Someone on here wisely picked Pettigrew, but he also picked Slaughter.

My picks:

PG: Raymond Taylor, FAU. Leads the conference in assists, and throws in 14.5 points per game too. Oh, and he's a freshman? Ouch. Was tempted to go with the always impressive Vogler out of Troy.

SG: Nate Rohnert, Denver. You get most of the scoring of Slaughter or Hazzard, but without all the boneheaded turnovers. Considering Denver's pace of game, Rohnert is probably by far the best, and certainly the most efficient scorer in the conference.

WF: Marvin Roberts, FIU. Turnover prone, but is 6'5" and is #4 in the conference in scoring.

PF: Tyren Johnson. If you didn't include him on your list, you didn't do your homework. #1 in scoring in the conference, #2 in rebounding. Has quietly been leading Louisiana Lafayette in racking up some wins. Is this your POY?

C: George Odufuwa. NT. Only 6' 8", but leads the conference in rebounding by a wide margin.

And... as a bonus... for coach of the year I think it is Mike Jarvis and it is not even close. You look at where they were before he got there, you look at where they were last year, and then you look at the turnaround this year (about a year sooner than I would have figured it). Just amazing. And by all accounts Jarvis is a fantastic person as well.

I'd go with Jarvis, too... But I disagree that it's not even close. John Brady deserves some serious consideration, too.

To be fair... Two of us that picked Slaughter are North Texas fans. The guy tends to show up extra early for our games, so Slaughter gets a lot of respect from our fans. At least, the ones that are paying attention.

Also, thanks for recognizing Odufuwa's contributions. I know All Conference teams tend to heavily favor top scorers, but hopefully Odufuwa's rebounding and his double-double average will be enough to get him the official honor.

I would go with Brady.

Nah, I'd also have to go with Jarvis at this point. The Owls were pretty much awful last year, and now they're in the hunt to win the East. Brady is a great choise too tho, and if FAU fades down the stretch, I would definitely go with him

RE: MBB: Who is your First Team All-SBC Team ? - chiefsfan - 02-09-2010 05:29 PM

Tyren Johnson ULL
Raymond Taylor FAU
Brandon Reed ASU
Brandon Hazzard Troy
Whoever the big man is from MTSU that destroyed us. not yates but the other guy

Having not seen Slaughter im not voting for him yet, Ill see him twice in the next 9 days though. I think Yates injury issues keep him out

Reed is a homer pick but he's averaging nearly 16 points a game in conference play as a freshman

RE: MBB: Who is your First Team All-SBC Team ? - KAjunRaider - 02-09-2010 06:21 PM

Please don't vote for your own players. I would've voted for Boogie Yates, because, without him, we lose to NC A&T and the like.

I'm going to tally up a total at the end.

Well, he's probably referring to your failure to include the league's best player in your top 5. Louisiana's Tyren Johnson leads the league in scoring, is second in rebounding and is among the league leaders in blocks, assists and steals. DUH!!!!!

RE: MBB: Who is your First Team All-SBC Team ? - WKUFan518 - 02-11-2010 12:50 PM

Oh ok I was just doing first team all conf. based on performance against WKU.....Did not remember Johnson having a strong game against us.....But he can be alternate 1....
