How long have you been a fan ? - MeanGreen61 - 02-13-2009 12:27 PM

This old codger's first game for North Texas was in 1947 as a 12 year old.
The team quarterback, Zeke Martin, was from Denton and a hero to us local kids.

It was a good year for North Texas. The Eagles had a 10-2 record, beat Florida 20-12 in Gainesville. Losses were 12-0 to Arkansas and 13-6 to Nevada in the Salad Bowl. (no I didn't remember this, got it from the UNT Media Guide04-cheers)

I was -3 in 1947 . . . LOL 04-bow

I began following stAte in 1966; as a sophomore in high school I knew that I would be headed to stAte after graduation. It has been a tumultuous ride, but I have hung in there . . . D2 (SLC), D1 (SLC), D1-AA (SLC), D1-A (Independent, Big West, Independent again, SBC) . . . 03-banghead

Well I'm not quite as "seasoned" as some of you I guess. I began to follow TROY in 2001. I, like Manzanowar, knew I would be headed there after highschool. So, I have been a fan of Troy since we moved to division 1.

RE: How long have you been a fan ? - clutch0364 - 02-13-2009 02:12 PM

First started following Cajun basketball while in high school. (graduated high school in 2003) As I great as a fan started going to baseball games and sense my freshman year in college I have not missed a UL football game. Have educated myself on the history of the school and would not trade my fandom for anything.

seems we have a lot in common clutch. i grew up an Auburn fan so i knew next to nothing about Troy. I've have to completely educate myself on my school as well. I may not have grown up a Trojan, but I challenge anyone who claims to be a bigger fan. :)

Growing up I never liked college athletics. I always stuck to the Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys but sense starting school I have almost completely quit following any pro teams.

If someone would challenge me as a fan, they would lose lol

RE: How long have you been a fan ? - MT FAN - 02-13-2009 04:20 PM

I became a Middle fan when I enrolled there in 2001.

RE: How long have you been a fan ? - CardinalBlackTrojan - 02-13-2009 04:22 PM

I was interested in Troy football when I was 6 and I went to the Troy-UAB football game in Troy. Troy put a lasting impression on me with the atmosphere there and the 60-7 beating they put on the Blazers. I go to school there and I've been a huge fan ever since!

First started following WKU in 1993 when they hit the Sweet 16. I became an avid fan when I enrolled in 1996.

My Dad took me to WKU basketball games... for as long as I can remember. I don't remember my first game, I was too young. I do remember that Diddle Arena in those days hurt my young ears.

Jesus! My FATHER was 8! I've been a fan at MT technically since 1978 when I entered a PPK contest and failed miserably:sorry:

RE: How long have you been a fan ? - Joel - 02-14-2009 06:33 PM

Sheesh, I might be the newest fan here! I became a fan just this past fall. Grew up in Miami all my life, followed UM all my life (*gag*) but I'm a freshman at FIU now and fell in love from the first home game against USF onwards. I feel like I own a stake in this team. The fans that are here now get to witness and be a part of something special down here, and I honestly feel like people down here are going to catch on really quick! They already are!

Good for you, man. Keep your spirit for your team, I hope you guys can put it together. Great football coach, wish we'd have hired him (or someone like him) instead of sifting through the discount table at the high school bake sale.
