Which new recruit will make a name for himself in year one? - clutch0364 - 02-12-2009 10:22 AM

One your teams who will be the recruit who will do the most early on?

For the Cajuns I believe Brandon McCray will be the guy. We have struggled landing top notch DL in the past but McCray fits the mold of what we have needed for a while. He won't start from day one but by the time conference rolls around I believe he will be a force in the middle.

Pretty sure all of our recruits will redshirt.

Weve built up some depth and we like to give those younguns some time to Beef up and get in College shape.

IF one does, it might be Corey Henry for a pash rush, or I can see that big new OL Chris Chappel (6'9 300lbs) get some play to help keep Rusty Smith up on his feet torching defenses.

6'9 300 04-jawdrop WOW!!! We got an OL that is 6'6 260 with a 6'10 wing span but damn 6'9 300.

TROY DT Eugene Kinlaw is going to make an immediate impact. So will WR Josh Jarboe.

Owls nest has some pics up of him in the recruiting section. He is HUGE.

I cant imagine what he will look like with a few years of FBS Strength Coaching under him. Only problem I see is if the QB will be able to throw over the top of him. 04-jawdrop

I still would need to see film on the guy to see what his feet and hips are like. It is one thing to be a big lumbering wall. It is another to be a lineman who can move. That is why I like the guys the Cristobal has recruited. Some of them will need a year to add bulk. But others, such as Austin Tottle and Dave Istanich, will be able to step in right away. They are both right at about 6'3" 300, and have good feet.

That said I believe that FIU's impact player could come from Thatcher Starling on defense and Edgard Theliar on offense.

Edgard gives FIU another down-field threat, who will play opposite of T.Y.

Our defensive line will benefit greatly from the pressure Thatcher will be able to put on the opposing QBs. For a DE, he has good size (6'4" 255lbs) and runs well (4.7-4.8 40)

God I hate not having football in the spring. we NEED some sort of spring league. I was really hopeful that the UNGL would work out and we'd be able to watch football year round. Oh well.

We focus on athletic lineman that we can develop. We have 3 lineman on the roster who were big TE/DE in high school. They all had great feet work so once they put on weight they will be big athletic tackles.

I agree with Josh Jarboe.....I just hope he keeps his head on straight so he can actually see the field this year.

Clutch,

That is what some NFL teams do. I remember talking with an NFL scout, I believe from the Steelers, who was looking at one of FIU's TE's (Moses Hinton) and projecting him to end up being a tackle with his ability to put on weight and the fact that he is so athletic for a big guy.
