I know there is quite a bit of talk of a new stadium on some other sites. But such discussions could be damaging to the plan at this time. Until Tulane has made appropriate contacts and generated needed support from political and neighborhood leaders, such discussions need to be kept private.

You guys are trying to get one, too? So are we (UAB)...The buzz is all over Blazertalk about an OCS, Memphis fans have been demanding one, too, but they've got other issues to address with the football team's play on the field. It'd be great if every Conference USA football team that doesn't have an on-campus stadium yet actually gets one in a timely manner. Good luck to you on that, meantime, I'll be at Legion Field this Saturday for your game against our Blazers.

On campus facilities are the backbone of a sports program and show a commitment to it. If you don't have one, your program will have too many down periods. I was just a kid when Tulane stadium was demolished and I couldn't figure out why. I just assumed the academic dodo birds who think athletic programs are below them, took over. Am I wrong? And why didn't Tulane stay in the SEC? Vandy did.

I'd read some online dialogue that Tulane's unveiling the plans for an on campus stadium today at 1:30.
If it's true, congratulations. I hope that we at UAB can be that fortunate to garner this kind of support from those who claim to have our best interests in mind.

You know what? I'd forgotten that Tulane was once in the SEC a long time ago. Could someone please tell me how you all got the stadium financed (other than the big check I heard that Malcolm Glazer wrote for y'all, I'm curious about the amount given by him - is he a Tulane Alumni?) and was there any interference similar to what we've been facing here at UAB with our board of so-called "trustees?"

Was wondering if there's been any movement on the new football stadium for Tulane. Our BOT has told UAB officials to not bring the issue up about a new stadium for a couple of years. Democracy in action, eh?

I saw online a ranking of all the venues being used for Division 1 College Football, and whoever did these rankings, IMO, was either

, because he/they had Legion Field (#121) ranked ahead of Tulsa's oncampus facilities (#124)...Unbelievable! I'm a UAB fan, and I know better than that! If I can find the link, I'll post it here for you to see , you'd be hard pressed to find any Blazers football fan who wouldn't be more than happy to have what Tulsa has at its' disposal as opposed to what we as fans and our players as a football team have to endure at the hands of an obviously inferior football venue that is Legion Field. See you guys in October.

Tulane has plans to open Yulman stadium by the start of the 2014 football season to coincide with our first year in the BE.

The home opener will be the first Tulane on campus football game held since the mid 1970s. Tulane has dedicated more than 125 million dollars to athletic infrastructure in the past decade including a new 5,000 seat baseball stadium, a Basketball and volley ball practice facility, renovated basketall arena and now a new football stadium that will be opened in 2014.
There was some opposition for the stadium that led to a local neigborhood orginization teaming up with a city council member. They tried to force and interim zoning district for the area in an effort to thwart the stadium but the zoning commision did not agree and the zonning measure was pulled. The Plans for the stadium were in compliance with the current zoning laws. You can read more about the fight on the tulane stadium web site listed above.

His son and daughter-in-law are Tulane grads. Jill Glazer does a whole lot for the University.
Tulane was not only in the SEC, but holds more SEC football championships than 4 or 5 current members combined.
The Tulane Board of Trustees became a rubber-stamp machine for (thank God now former) President Scott Cowen. Cowen, who loved to see his name in the press, spent 11 of his 15 years as President doing his best to keep Tulane athletics small time. He misread the Tea Leaves badly, and actually bad mouthed the Big East regularly. It was shocking to see him and his clown of an AD, Rick Dickson, announcing that Tulane would be joining the Big East when just months earlier he had been putting it down. His "Tulane Model" was an utter failure. Had Cowen been more astute, he would have hired Rich Rodriquez (who made the spread offense popular when he was the O coordinator at Tulane in '97 and '98 and was told he was going to get the head job) kept Sandy Barbour as AD, and gotten Tulane into the Big 12 in the mid 2000's.
Many folks "in the know" claim that the Glazers actually pushed Cowen to improve Tulane's commitment to athletics. They do own one of the most popular sports franchises in the world, and I'm not talking about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
