Lets get real people. We belong to a conference that just got a 14 seed for our Men's basketball champ. And not one NIT bid. The OVC got a 12 seed for their champ and a second team in the NIT. Everyone wants out of this conference. NMSU left, Utah State left before they got here. La Tech left. UNT is trying to leave so is WKU. And if you think the new Flordia schools don't just look at the SBC as a stepping stone, just like UCF and USF both former SBC members. Hell we have more former members than members. UAB,VCU,ODU,JAX,UNCC,USF,LaTech,Lamar,Texas Pan Am,Georgia St. UCF,NMSU,Utah State,
Let this conference go away. There is not one current conference member that would not leave the SBC to any other 1a CONFERENCE. WHAT DOES IT SAY. Put a fork in The SBC its done.

Does the SBC need to improve? Yes
Is it to far gone? No

Heres what I was thinken of earlier. As far as Basketball is concerned, you could make a legitimate excuse that this was the worst year of SBC basketball in a long LONG Time. WKU was down, NMSU was bad, UL was still pretty good, but I see alot of hope in the future for UNO, UALR, MTSU, arnd ASU.

Baseball is still good, and will be good for a long time to come, no prob there.

Football...ahh yes, the sport so very looked down upon, this is what I see could happen which would make this a much more marketable league. The longer this drags out, the more it appears La Tech is not getting an invite, apparently same with UNT. With that said, a new top heavy conference will come out of it with UNT/La Tech/and Troy State being current top dogs. Add those 2 teams to the mix, and we go from a conference with little/no respect, to one who beat 2 top 25 teams last year, and numerous close calls with just our ussual group. Wins over Michigan State/Baylor/UAB/ and Marshal top the list of the schools beaten by those 3. If you ask me, doesnt sound like a bad deal. On top of that, ASU/MT/ and UL have shown some serious signs of life, along with ULM to some extent, and FAU is definitly on the way up, and FIU is worken on it. this could be a decent little league. A 9 team league with some decent rivalrys. UL/La Tech (each others oldest rival), UNT/ULM (regardless of record its been close thus far, acctually, UNT/ASU would work 2, and oh yea, I dont see ULM kicked out, but if La Tech is available, I would imagine they would stay on as a football only member instead of full), MT/Troy (not sure about specifics, but I know there was some bad blood between schools), and FIU/FAU (pretty self explanitory eh?). The battle for the bayou would still exist just earlier in the year, but nothing against ULM, La Tech is just our biggest and oldest rival in most sports and if in the same conference, its very possible that will be our rivalry game.

Dont give up, The league is new, we can make this league work if we try.

and do what instead 03-confused What did you do, go around to every Sun belt board and post the same thing? What school are you a fan of in the Sun Belt?

Wait, I just figured out who you are.

From this month's Ask the Commish:

Question (Richard Smity): Why is it that every time I think that the Sun Belt is a respectable conference, I am soon to find out how much it truly sucks?

Commissioner Wright Waters: Define "sucks"! Because in three years we have set new attendance records in football, because in three years our champion in football has a post-season opportunity, because in football our student-athletes have received post-season honors or is it because even without one of the really great women's basketball teams no longer in the league we remain ranked 10th as a conference. Maybe it is because the leagues RPI in men's basketball has improved every year and that we set all kinds of attendance records this year, or maybe it is because four years ago the league produced only 2 TV games and that number is up to over 30 this year and will continue to grow. Maybe it is because student-athletes in this league are going to class (we recognized over a thousand last year for having a 3.00 GPA or better). Or maybe it is because graduation rates continue to climb, maybe it is because baseball is ranked 5th in the country last year in overall RPI and softball had a team in the College World Series. Or maybe it is because in all our other sports we are breaking records and sending teams and individuals to NCAA championships. Maybe it is because our schools care about student-athletes and have their priorities in the right place. Maybe it is because of corporate sponsorship program has grown 3500% in two years. Maybe it is because you just see the glass half empty.

Before we jump to any conclusion about the SBC, why not give it chance to stabalize first. This conference is going through a lot of chances in a short period of time, I believe once all the conference re-alignment are complete and both FAU & FIU become full members, this conference will continue to grow and get better. The teams with-in the SBC are already making stride in improving themselve and becoming more competetive, this does not happen overnight, give it time and in five years well see where the SBC stands. IMHO, it will be a much stronger conference.

According to your logic the Pac 10 needs to be hanging it up because they have had a terrible year. Last two seasons, at least, we have had two teams in post season, and have been in the top half of the conferences. Evidently you won't be satisfied unless you are in the SEC.
