Its a little early for basketball, but the best stadium thread inspired me to pose the same question for basketball arenas.

Personally I've only been to two... WKU and MTSU. Anyone care to post some pictures of your arenas?

From the TV pictures I've seen I seem to remember UNO having an outstanding arena.

In my traveling, the Mitchell Center and Convocation center are both nice, but they are more/less cookie cutter arenas. Cajun dome is very unique.

But, after the renovations, Diddle Arena is the nicest arena in the Sun Belt. The luxury boxes rival those in professional sports (they are very much like those at The Coliseum for the Tenn Titians). The locker rooms are nicer than anything I've ever seen at any other college and probably better than some NBA. It really is a fantastic facility all around.

Anyone that has time, should look at some of these pictures that a local photographer took during the ribbon cutting. Includes pictures of the locker rooms etc.

Don't claim to be the best, but the North Texas Super Pit is a very good basketball venue and we're proud of it.

Are you sure this is up to codes? Doesn't the NCAA regulate the size of the court? Looks a little small to me.

Looks great guys. I wish all the SBC had a gym like that.

Well, Troy is out of the running on this one. Ours isn't up to the Sun Belt standard....yet! The Trojan Arena is the next facility on the list for upgrades, but I suspect it will be more like a complete demolish and re-build.

We do get a good crowd at all of our home games now, so we usually pack the place or get pretty close. Who would have known that winning games really helps attendance? :)

Can't wait to take on South Alabama, either at the Mitchell Center, Trojan Arena, or the B.C. Rain High School gym!

GO TROJANS!

No offense to any of the MTSU fans, but I have to say that the last time I was in the Murphy Center, I found it kind of dreary and thought that it could use a bit of sprucing up. To me their football facilities definitely seem superior to their basketball facilities because I think Floyd Stadium is a pretty nice facility. Mind you, I have seen MUCH worse facilities than the Murphy Center though (but I won't name the offending school).

- wku_topper - 08-02-2004 07:58 PM

Doesn't Denver have a pretty nice facility? It seems that I have heard in the past that they have a nice arena, but I dont know for sure. Also what about Alltell Arena in Little Rock, should it be amongst the top of the arenas?

- Louisianafanrcajun90 - 08-02-2004 09:53 PM

:snore:

Lake Front Arena at UNO is a dreadful place. First it doesn't look like it's been cleaned since Tim Floyd was coaching there. Second it is rather small and lastly the folks working concessions has that service with a frown attitude which is prevalent throughout the New Orleans area.

One unique thing about the place is "LSU Man". He is local nut job dressed in full LSU gear running around the arena cheering on UNO. 03-razz

I've been fortunate to have been to several SBC arenas ( Cajundome, Tech's arena when they were SBC members, ASU's Convo Center, UALR's Alltel Arena, USA's Mitchell Center, and UNO's Lakefront Arena)following my team on the road. I have to say that, overall, the arenas are spacious and very nice overall. FIU's own arena, while bright, clean, and intimate, isn't even on the same league with the ones I've mentioned above.

While I liked and was impressed by each and every one of them, I rank the Mitchell Center as the nicest on-campus arena, and Alltell as the nicest off-campus arena for the schools I've been to....

- nickdanger - 08-02-2004 11:47 PM

The Richie Center at DU is a $70 Million Dollar atletic complex at DU that opened in 2001. It seats about 6,300 for basketball and hockey. It is a beautiful facility and home to the 2003 NCAA Hockey Champs, the DU Pioneers.

- galojah - 08-03-2004 07:10 AM

Denver's arena did look nice when I saw it on tv this past year when they played WKU.

- wkufreakyfan - 08-03-2004 08:41 AM

TopperJeff, Ive never seen the Super Pit either, but I'll be there this spring. I've been to ASU's arena, and it was smaller than some, but it wasn't horrible either. The Murphy center needs to be rehauled. If they want bigger crowds to come in, take the seats out and at least shampoo them (I hate playing there cuz we usually get beat 03-wink )
The Cajun dome is nice too....Over half of the schools arenas in the SBC are ok, they just need more people to fill them.
GO TOPS

- arkstfan - 08-03-2004 10:09 AM

Says something when a 10,500 seat arena is "smaller than some".

UALR is moving out of Alltel to a smaller (less than 6,000 seat) on campus facility that is supposed to be a super facility.

When it comes to ASU, UNT, ULL, UNO, WKU, USA I think it boils down to personal preferences because you could make a good case for any of them. Same for Alltel. Their lower level seating for the most part is very good. Can't comment on the rest.
