RE: UAB retaining their talent is awesome... and important
Guys..."Mid-major" and "high-major" are designations (albeit unofficial) of CONFERENCES, not schools. A terrible team from the SEC or Big XII is a "high-major," because of the conference they're in. How historically great, or bad, you are is irrelevant to the analysis. As awesome as Davidson was when Steph Curry was there....they were a mid-major. DePaul just went 3-29, and have been bad for a long time, but they're still a high-major. Pretty basic stuff here.

This is the most Blazertalk thread ever
Someone posts a very positive article
First response is “I didn’t even bother to read it, but I’m going to complain about it”
Then the whole thread is used to debate the complaints of the guy that didn’t even read the positive article
I wonder why people think this forum is tough to read

like the article bb and football keep his player , we had the one of the best receiver in the nation as a freshman and he stay with us , and i think we had a great lb fs also and both stay
dont forget we won the P6 conference in basketball and we play the best P6 football team with a great qb no offensive line and no defense ,,,we may win in bb and football this year ,,and we will the best non p5 team in the nation ,dont forget that many p5 teams are terrible and just collect the money and keep their title of p5 teams

Yes, designated by conference earnings and brand power. Quality has nothing to do with it. Half the “majors” are terrible, always have been, but they are great at spending others’ football money.

I made a point standing up for UAB. You'd think a board of UAB fans would appreciate that.

I understand that. I'm not stupid. I was trying to make the point that our players already play up to a "high major" standard, especially the last 4 years, and the title of the article insinuating that they would have to transfer to a "high major" school to be "high major talents" was a little denigrating. Also, my second point is UAB is not a "small school." That is also condescending.

I agree. A lot of sports media & sports fans view the entire institution through the lens of the school's conference affiliation or P5/G5. UAB may be outside the P5 in athletics, but the institution as whole is a powerhouse.

The traffic on here is way better than when this was an echo chamber. I’ll say that.

This place is like a geriatric Sunday School service compared to nearly any other sports message board, radio show, real life sporting events, etc.

I can't speak for who left over what and who, but I can speak to Memphis Blazer getting banned. He's a great Blazer fan, long time archivist, etc, but he got into wrangle after wrangle with other posters and the mods for a decade or better. They finally got to the point that they simply had no desire to put up with it any longer and they ran him.
There are all sorts of things that go on in the background when you moderate an internet forum. I don't do it, have no desire to, and I'm not privy to the specifics. I just know that MB was given an awful lot of rope for years before he was shown the door.
