over the past 3 year.... WOW. And we thought the portal was bad.

After all these moves (Calipari the most recent), what is the state of the coaching carousel now?

Currently, 60 jobs have opened -- 53 of which have been filled. As a point of reference, there were 61 job changes total last year, 60 in 2022 and 57 in 2021.

(that's 238 since 2021)
(per ESPN)

RE: More than half the D1 schools have new BB coaches
is it even possible for some coach to be on the "hot seat" next season?

The Pope from BYU will be the next HC at KY.

I did not know a Mormon could be A Pope.

Ok, so you're Mormon joke guy. Got it.

There of course is some fan meltdown over Mark Pope leaving--but it is the way things go. With Pope having been here 5 years as HC and 4 years as an assistant, he is on the long side of that trend line.

Some of the Mormon men in my wife's family were very good at sneaking to drink alcohol and coffee.

Jeff Spinelli from Finger Lakes College in Manchester NY would be a good candidate.

He's more of a "bad joke" guy than a mormon joke guy.

but..... Pope is a UK guy, not a Mormon. So the only thing ridiculous about it was that it was said at all.

... and, he had to twist it and say "The Pope" from BYU, which was not even accurate. I mean if you're going to start twisting the words around, wouldn't he actually be "The Pope Coach"? ... see what I mean, it doesn't really work.

Not funny.

For Pope, Kentucky is his dream job--his alma mater. Even while at BYU, he did not hide his love of Kentucky. He also scored a reported base salary of $5.5 mill/year so good for him. There is a bunch of rumors and hand-wringing about the replacement or if everyone is going to transfer now. But we'll have to see how this plays out.

Good luck on the rebuild...

Local rumors are that Dallin Hall has been on the verge of hitting the transfer portal for the last few weeks before Pope left seeking more NIL money than he has got his first 2 years. Khalifa is widely expected to be following Pope to Kentucky for his final year of eligibility. Nobody expects the changes are over, but the first focus has to be on the coach. Another effect is that pre-season top 25 ranking is for sure going away to start the season now.

yep... tough times.

the click bait guys should not even be allowed to post preseason projections until after the portal window closes, at a minimum. and we should roast anybody that posts one of those nonsensical projections.
