CST - College Sports Tomorrow (possible alternative alignment and playoff)
Okay folks, this is the most interesting thing that I've seen in a while.
I don't know if it has a chance at being implemented... but it is something that I could probably get behind..
What do you think fellow conference members?
College leaders have reportedly met and devised a structure it believes would save college football

(excerpt)
...members of "College Sports Tomorrow" (CST) have devised a plan which includes promotion and relegation, a playoff with no selection committee and a system that will take the place of the NCAA and the College Football Playoff.
The CST structure, according to the report, is to have seven 10-team divisions consisting of the top 70 programs in the sport. An eighth division would also exist that would be made up of teams promoted from the second tier, which would consist of the remaining 50-plus FBS teams. The top 70 programs would never be at risk of being relegated, but there would be incentive for those teams in the second tier to win their way into contention for a title.
The playoff would be made up of the eight division winners plus eight wild cards, spots which would be decided similarly to the NFL using win-loss records and tiebreakers.

Not going to happen. Under this plan all the major conferences and related commissioners would be out of business.

is that really a reason why it would not happen? I don't think so.
What we have now will not continue on for much longer, half a decade at most. Those "major conferences" and "commissioners" will be gone anyway.
Something else besides what we have now is inevitable.

Really dumb idea.

I'm interested in why you think it is a dumb idea. You prefer the P2 money subdivision with the top 35 teams paying millions to ante up and pay their players, and then take 2/3rds of the CFP money? Is that really a better idea?

Why would the Big 10 and SEC agree to less money. There is a fixed amount of money to go around so the top teams would get less so lower teams could get more, which is what this would try to do. Will not happen as they (SEC/B1G) do not want equal money for 70 teams and equal chances at a playoff championship. Why give up you money and access advantage to win on a level playing field when you do not have to?

because they would not have as much say-so in such a decision. They could choose to say no, we'll start our own league.
Each conference would have 8 teams, so the ability to have more money would be even higher, not lower. More conference TV contracts with fewer teams to share with. The B1G (i.e., tOSU) would not have to share media dollars with the likes of Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois, etc.) Sure, the playoff money "might" be less, unless, of course, your 8 team league happened to get 2 or more teams into said 16 team playoff.
