Lutz to Oklahoma State.

WKU very probable to hire top assistant PLONA.

He was interested but JMU was better job, couldnt wait around until Lutz signed the contract. Its really amazing to me Oklahoma St made the jump on Lutz. He was great in conference tournament one and done going 9-0. Regular Season was nothing to write home about going 8-8 in a very average basketball conference. Will be different job for Lutz when the conference tournament is meaningless, hard to predict how a coach will do but the prior 3 WKU coaches who made the jump all failed. As far as hiring Plona, very lazy hire to me. WKU fans all in and trying to shut down any noise or skepticims. He has 1 year D1 expeirence. It could work out great or a be a diseaster, hard to see any middle right now. Either or, we better have 5 or 6 guys returning for next seaon which will help in this conference. Time will tell. Very meh about the hire and Im not alone with those thoughts. Very disappointing WKU aciting like they did a national search and then 12 hours later this is our guy. Pretty sure handshake agreement was in place at least last week and maybe even earlier than that, who knows.

I wonder if the new guy played a big part in getting those players to WKU ?

WKU brass probably did not want to start all over again. Worth the risk, in my opinion.
Most reasonable WKU fans know this. Of course, there will always be the “meh hire” people who can say I told ya so if it doesn’t work (looking at you 518). Is a different landscape now. A coach with a JUCO background is possibly the best option. He’s used to recruiting a new team every year. This one seems to be well respected by his players and other assistants (by the looks of the presser). Continuity is key, and I think we might have it.

RE: Steve Lutz
Pretty clear from the player quotes in the newspapers and Hank's presser in general, a majority of this team will return next season. Continuity and experience are king in this NIL and portal era of college basketball and something you simply can't buy. McHenry, Marshall, Moore, Faye, Kalambay, and Lander are all set to return which is a fantastic core of players to build around. Allen and Newman have another year should they choose it, but I think it's likely both move on. Having 6 returnees from a CUSA tournament champion team who have been there and done that is a gamble worth taking with Plona. If he can beef up our rotation with a couple portal bigs and a PG and SG, we could really be cooking up something special.

I think Allen will return. Not sure about Newman. I welcome any and all back that want to be at WKU. Definitely going to need some help in the interior though. Rodney Howard was a space eater.
