Rick Stansbury wants to help Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway get the program back on track after a rocky ending to the 2023-24 season. "I'm committed to being here and helping Coach in any little way I can to get this thing back to winning championships," Stansbury told The Commercial Appeal.

I wouldn't believe that for a minute. Stansbury is well known as a great recruiter. There would be plenty of head coaches that would be happy to have him on staff.

The issue is will Penny stop being bullheaded and utilize his assistant coaches instead of ignoring them.

He really just needs to tweak a few things. Last season he was imo one player short. Shoulda kept Nolley and probably would have if Lester hadn’t left. This year he had 3 players not pan out. One dude to injury , one due to losing his shot and one due to losing his shape and possibly bad fit.

Same here. I was sure he would be on the first train out of town. I hope Penny will let Stansbury use his coaching strengths to help next year's team. Penny is just not a naturally great floor coach but is a great recruiter. Together, they could be a great team.

He has a whole roster to replace & cannot count on Jones to return; and if he does, he still has a put a supporting cast around him… a group of role players willing to sacrifice on the offensive end and still get play hard nosed, in your face defense.

Our issue is we have no “program culture” guys… guys like Sasser & Shead at Houston. We’ve been a revolving door & this past year, it caught up to us. DeAndre & ALo provided some of that in the past, but last year it was nonexistent & next year seems to be more of the same. We need some gritty, win at all costs 3-4 year guys, and then supplement them with an NIL need.
