Wasn’t JP Prince’s dad an assistant coach at Memphis prior to Cal getting the job in 2000? Speaking of that, I don’t think Terry Tippett ever had a kid sign with Memphis.

He was on Finch last staff and undermined him big time
Tippett hated sending kids here. So did Ted Anderson and many others
Tippet coached at ECS following his stint at White Station. I don't remember if he coached Kam Jones, though. I think Tippet had retired before Kam Jones' career @ ECS.

1) Ted Anderson loved Memphis, loved Larry
2) Ted first brought Todd Day to Memphis and Larry, Ted wanted his son Darrell Anderson to get a scholarship. Darrell was a solid player yet at that time Memphis did not have an extra scholarship to offer Darrell. Unfortunately for Darrell he tore his knew up on his first Midnight Madness he played in.
3) Ted sent Paris London to Memphis
Ted, whom I was personally close to. I was provided some opportunities to help out Hamilton do some things for their program and the opportunity to help out Todd Day at his summer camps. I spent a few Sundays paying in Hamilton with all of the former players, was fun.
Darrell his son is a close friend of mine.
So, Ted loved Memphis. Period anything said otherwise is inaccurate.
Supposedly had offers from Florida and Marquette, but the rest were mid majors like Troy and Tenn Tech. Let’s face it he would have probably transferred out. Some of yall don’t realize how toxic the situation is here and it’s been that way going back to the end of the Finch years. It why Cal didn’t get Earnest Shelton and JP Prince etc
If I remember right, we were going after Prince... but once CDR signed we filled the scholarship.
Cal got super f'ing lucky twice. CDR over Prince, and remember we got unranked Carney because whatever issues Qyntel Woods had. Two less All Americans we wouldve had if we signed the Memphis kid

Coach Tippett's last year coaching was the 2017-18 season at ECS. I think that was the first year Kam played varsity and then Willie Jenkins coached him after that.

Kam Jones & Cameron Payne were two Memphis area private school kids that I wish had played for the Tigers. For whatever reason, those two went elsewhere.

We’ve never able to sign many of these local private school players
Giannotto & Jeffrey had some good dialog about Kam yesterday. Neither would be considered homer media guys or Penny apologists.
1. Kam came through the COVID recruiting years. There were bad evaluations all around and he missed a critical summer before his sr year.
2. Kam got very few offers from anyone. If Penny missed on Kam, so did UTK, Old Miss, Arkansas, etc.
3. Penny's recruiting class that year was #1 in the country. Emoni didn't pan out, but no one in the country saw that coming.
4. Kam wasn't even the highest regarded local kid at that time. Kennedy Chandler and J-Lawson were much more accomplished and higher rated.
5. At Memphis, he would have absolutely been behind Lester, Landers, Emoni, Alex, Tyler. His opportunities would have been limited - he likely is unsatisfied and transfers.
5. Kam being undervalued and slighted could very well have led to what made him what he is today.

You’re right about Prince…his dad told me that Cal told him up front that he was going to take which ever one committed first. JP wasn’t ready that early in the process…
