Any school looking for a coach, or who has a coach on the hot seat, should have this man on their short list. He may not want to coach again, but you at least have to try. He’d be #1 on my list.

I'd be down, but does he have it in him to come out of retirement? Probably needs a few years off if he's going to get that fire back.

Yup. He wanted nothing to do with the NIL and wild west system it would create.

Why are you people engaging in these hypotheticals? Penny is going nowhere unless he decides it's time to call it quits. He has at least another season - probably 2 - of failure to go before his seat gets too hot.

He’s not coming back to coaching. He left because of all the NIL and transfer portal stuff. We are stuck with Penny whether you like it or not. It’s his program either to bring back to prominence or burn it to the ground

Correct, wouldn't surprise me if Self and Cal exit in the next 2 years.

THIS ! I’m simply amazed at the people on here that are wanting to ditch Penny after one bad half season. The same ones all loved Pastner. Do you really think they the powers that be would give Penny less time than him? And please don’t come on here with the apples and orange comparisons. They took over vastly different programs. Do any of you realize what’s going on in college hoops now? Look at all the schools that are having issues getting coaches? Indiana, UCLA, Cincinnati, Louisville, Georgetown all having trouble. And let’s not even bring up DePaul and UNLV who are so far down they will never come back. Nobody is knocking down any of their doors unless they are looking for a huge pay raise from a mid major. To replace Penny we would need to hire either a retread like Bob Huggins or some unproven coach or a coach with a bad past.

Wake up
