That IS huge...gotta love it - ESPN has a boner for SBC, so it can only help us (as opposed to Fox and others not seeing the value)

Problem is G5 is getting no more money and possibly less in the new deal.

We're getting about $300K more which is basically nothing with inflation.

Honestly though having access is better than having money.

This is true, and I would think the payout for an appearance would also go up but I haven't read about that being the case yet. Previously the access bowl was worth roughly $4 million.

So is that an average or a flat rate. If just a flat rate then I prefer the average. CUSA schools shouldn't make as much as us for being in the worst G5 conference.

My understanding is it a set amount per G5 program regardless of affiliation. There may be more money tied to conference finish or CFP participation. But the baseline is the same.

Does this mean SEC & BIG is tied in as part of FBS as it is now at least to the end of this contract? Well you know...unless they want to break it.

The amount for CFP/NY6 participation was removed.

G5's get a flat payout now. We LOST money for what will hopefully be a G5 spot in the CFP, cause otherwise we got screwed over a good bit.

From the ESPN article linked above:
Quote:There will no longer be a CFP participation bonus for any of the other leagues -- a detail that was frustrating to some leaders in the Group of 5. The Group of 5 schools' annual payments will increase to just under $1.8 million from the current $1.5 million.

For the 14 team SBC, that means it basically balances out. An extra $300k per team per year is an extra $4.2M a year for the conference. Essentially guaranteed the $4M participation bonus from the old deal. But it's a pretty meager increase compared to what the P5 got.

CFP: You guys don’t participate enough to justify more money.

ALSO CFP: Here’s 1 bid for your 60+ teams.
