I have more authority here than you. I was born in the City of Atlanta, raised in Marietta, and attended both Southern Tech and Kennesaw College before they merged.

So it's decided.

Kennesaw State University is now THE University of Atlanta. Emphasis on the THE. Because if Ohio State can do it, by golly, so can you!

Quote:Your "Georgia State" and "The Georgia Institute of Technology" example is not the best example because people do not say "The Georgia Institute of Technology" when referring to Georgia Tech, they say Georgia Tech. In fact Georgia State is an after thought in regard to Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech in the main college in Atlanta.

"Atlanta Metropolitan State College" and "The University of Atlanta" are not the same thing.

Just as "Georgia State" and "Georgia Tech" are not the same thing.

No one outside of metro Atlanta has even heard of Atlanta Metropolitan State College. No one will be confused. It'll be fine.

I'm glad we had this discussion.

If you grew up in Atlanta, then you would know that there was a massive debate over if KSU is in Atlanta on twitter. If you grew up in the Atlanta area, you would know that most people do not consider the city of Kennesaw or Kennesaw State as Atlanta.

There is also the Atlanta University Center, which includes Clark Atlanta.

Clark county is still the Atlanta Metro as is where the braves are. Maybe a few locals don’t like to say they are in Atlanta but most people would tell others they meet that they live in Atlanta. The actually city of Atlanta only has about 500,000 people. It’s very small. But metro Atlanta is well over 3 million now.

By some measurements of metro ATL, I live about a mile or another about 10 miles from metro ATL in Alabama. Our neighboring Alabama county is in the ATL TV market. EPA has metro ATL coming to the state line. These may have changed since its been a few years when I read this information. ATL is a huge monster like PACMAN eating up the South.

It's 2024. Be bold, Kennesaw State.

"THE University of the Atlanta DMA"

This is such a bad take, if the Braves played as far from Atlanta as the 49ers do from San Francisco, Truist Park would be in Cartersville.

Sounds like San Francisco is a bad name for the 49ers too then. New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals are the Boston/Phoenix teams that don't use the name of cities they aren't in.

I like the braves. I just think the name is silly now that they are not in Atlanta.

It's a weird hill to die on, especially in a world where there are teams who literally play across state lines from the city in their team name.

The Braves moving less than 15 miles north was an inarguably good move for the franchise(the Summerhill neighborhood and Georgia State were also big winners in the move) but changing the name to the Georgia Braves? Why?

I agree that the move was great. Summerhill is better. State got a stadium. The braves got their big live/work/play development. I assume Cobb residents like having the braves close by. I have no issues with the move.

The why is because the braves are in Georgia and they are not in Atlanta. Georgia Braves is a better name. To your point about teams in different states, I think it's ridiculous. The giants and jets shouldn't have New York in the name. Any other team that does it should change the name too.

Is it a weird hill to die on? Sure, but I'm dying on it anyway.

Clark Atlanta University not Clark County, you are confused. The point is that if you change the name to Atlanta University, people will get it confused with other schools in Atlanta ie Clarke Atlanta University.

Clarke Atlanta University is not the same as THE University of the Atlanta DMA.

Besides, only one of them would be competing in Division I/FBS.

No one's going to get them confused, especially since conversationally you'd just be "Atlanta", just like the University of Louisville is "Louisville".

Well, I'm done hijacking this thread.

Can't wait to face the Atlanta Owls this fall!

Clark Atlanta is apart of the Atlanta University System people will confuse the name if KSU changes to The University of the Atlanta.

Guess a name change would create jersey and t shirt sales, everyone would need a new one.

And, as noted on the previous page, GSU has six. BOOM, numbers don't lie!

I think I like the way you folks troll over here.

Well, keep in mind Kennesaw State, er, THE University of the Atlanta DMA, not to be confused with Atlanta University Center, has been mired in the depths of FCS and the ASUN.

The move to FBS is surely going to increase their visibility and fan base. Why, they may have as many as 2 or 3 new fans when all's said and done. Take that, Panthers!

Couple that with attrition due to the murder rate downtown and the numbers game is looking pretty bad for us.

I love GSU fans and their small fanbase, however, I can't stand Georgia Southern fans. Them along with JMU fans make the SBC look bad.
