14 team playoff expected to be approved - G5 gets the shaft
https://www.espn.com/college-football/st...p-contract

Big Ten and SEC will increase their payout from $5.5M to more than $21M per school.

The ACC will get more than $13M per school.

The Big XII will get more than $12M per school.

Notre Dame will get more than $12M.

There will be "a financial incentive" for any independent team that reaches the CFP.

G5 schools will get a payout of just under $1.8M per school, up a measly $300K from the current $1.5 million.

The CFP can go to hell.

RE: 14 team playoff expected to be approved - G5 gets the shaft
Terrible news and bad for ALL 66 G5 schools.

Just an increase of a couple a million would have helped stave off starvation--but not even crumbs were thrown our way.

IMO this will insure:

---No G5 league will even consider going to 16---and some may evaluate contracting to 12 when given the chance; not enough money to divide with so many "pieces of the pie"

---More FB "money games" may be needed just to survive; example two a season instead of one--or even three on rare occasion

---A few Olympic sports may be Dropped at some schools

-- Two or three FBS schools may "drop-down" ULM, Akron, Kent St., EMU, FIU (unless the university decides to invest more into the program)

Schools already "on the edge" will be hit the hardest.

Others will be OK. Most in the MW and AAC. A few examples

Memphis--FedEx money

Liberty--- large amount of contributions

Appalachian State--VERY high attendance for income along with strong donor base

Boise St, SDSU, and others with STRONG support

Any school that depends chiefly on university support who has a large enrollment drop will be hurting.

This is the result you get when greed and stupidity determine the future of college football. [/font]

The CFP can go to hell.

Big 10 and SEC got their way and the G5 cowered from putting up any fight. They got a 400% increase per school in revenue, ACC with 240% increase, Big 12 with 220% increase, and the G5 with less than 20% increase from previous CFP deal.

RE: 14 team playoff expected to be approved - G5 gets the shaft
What's crazy is all the Conferences
Had to approve this crap. It's
Funny they did not even give the 12
Team playoff a chance before they had
To change it.
The Group of Greed Conferences
Just can't get enough $. Revenues
Should be based on performance not
Your conference name. So Notre Dame can
Suck for the next 12 years and still
Collect their 12 million. They also recently
Took the NIT away from the Non Power
Conferences in basketball as well
There are 32 div 1 basketball conferences
And If a team won their conference regular
Season title but lost in your conference tourney you got a auto bid to the NIT. Not
Any more only the P6 get the auto bids
Even though CUSA had both teams in
The Championship game of the NIT and
One team in the final 4 of the NCAA

They have successfully ruined college
Sports. The NFL model works fine where
You share revenue and you don't favor
One division over another.

NCAA Div 1 football is the only sport
On any level that you can't tell your team
Win every game and you will be the champ.

You have 10 FBS Conferences the winner
Of each should be in the playoffs with
6 at large.
But it does not matter the group of Greed
Just takes the players and coaches they
Want from the Group of the less fortunate
Along with all the money. You could not even kick 5 mil to each school in to the Group of 5.
I guess I can be a fan of water polo or
Basket weaving going forward

Hopefully the average sports fan will eventually get tired of watching an SEC-B1G title game EVERY year. I personally have already grown tired of this scam. This rigged system has always been against the little guy. They threw us a small crumb. Now they’ve even taken that small morsel away. The arrogant trio of the SEC, B1G and ESPN are sure that everyone will love this setup. They’ll give us what they want to give us and we’ll like it. They have total contempt for anyone outside of the P2. If fans don’t buy this scheme, this will become a house of cards that will fall. I’m sure hoping that’s what happens.

We need to hope that the G5 rep makes noise in the CFP regularly, and that the Big XII and ACC beat the SEC/B1G.

On a side note, I just hope they don't ruin college basketball as well. Sankey keeps making idiotic remarks about "deserving" .500 Power teams being more worthy than other AQs.

Unfortunately the average sports fan doesn't care, they just watch whatever is on TV. The only ones bothered by this are us hardcore G5 fans. I've even seen lots of P5 fans voice their displeasure on Reddit but lets be real, they're not gonna stop watching.

RE: 14 team playoff expected to be approved - G5 gets the shaft
A couple of notable items from the story for anyone too busy (or lazy) to click it:

Quote:The Group of 5 commissioners have been in a difficult position without any negotiating power, but sources indicate they won't choose being excluded from the CFP.

Quote:According to multiple sources, AAC commissioner Mike Aresco has been the most outspoken critic of the plan but hasn't been able to garner enough support from other commissioners to fight it.

Basically, the only recourse for the G5 would've been to not sign the new deal; however, this would only mean the G5 would be excluded from the playoff, and this would play right into the hands of the P4.

The G5 representatives could've banded together behind Aresco and fought it tooth and nail, but this comes to mind:

More importantly, G5 reps were afraid making too much noise would open them to reprisals from the P4 (and especially the P2). Passing a simple rule that Big Ten and SEC teams were no longer permitted to schedule G5s would strain budgets beyond the breaking point for many.

Quote:"It's like the Godfather's offer you can't refuse," one Group of 5 athletic director told ESPN on Thursday.

It's depressing if you are a big G5 fan. VERY Depressing.

Indys (not named Notre Dame) and the 2PAC were shafted even worse than the G5. The only saving grace for Washington State and Oregon State is the megamillions they're collecting from the departing PAC-12 teams.
