Kent State @ Toledo
Well. The final game of the 2023 - 2024 regular season is only a few days away. The Flashes will head northwest to the Glass City where they will be welcomed by the Toledo Rockets. It is my understanding that the Rockets will be playing for yet another MAC regular season title. A win would propel UT into first place regardless of the outcome in Kalamazoo.

Shout out to Stan Heath and company on their last second win over Akron last night. If chalk holds on Friday, the Flashes and Zips could meet on the evening of March 14th in the MAC quarterfinals. If chalk does not hold and any combination of Kent State, Miami or Western Michigan wins....I'll let burden handle those scenarios.

But anyways, for the Golden Flashes this could be:

a) a great test heading into the MAC tournament against a team that should bring their A game.

b) bad news

Here's to the Flashes giving UT all they can handle and then some!

Go Flashes!

RE: Kent State @ Toledo
If Chalk Holds here is what we will have...

1. Toledo
2. Akron
3. Ohio - I believe they are locked in to #3.
4. CMU - I believe they are locked in to #4
5. BGSU - BG and Miami could flip flop, but I don't know for sure.
6. Miami - things could get strange if WMU wins and Miami gets beat.
7. Kent State
8. Western

An Akron loss paired with a KSU loss would move the flashes to the #8 seed, behind WMU.

An Akron win paired with a KSU win would keep the Flashes at 7, and the opponent would be Toledo.

An Akron loss paired with a KSU win and Kent playes Akron in the 2 vs. 7 next week.

I may be wrong for all I know, but I may be right.

GO FLASHES!

Realistically, tonight is our last best chance at a .500 or better season. After tonight, the season will always end in a loss. So if we lose tonight we'd have to win two in Cleveland to not be under .500.

The spirit of Payton is alive and well with that missed dunk by Rollins. Embarrassing missed dunk followed up by 2 bricks from the line.

Down 36-24 and we can’t seem to make buckets from right under/near the hoop.

I like basketball. I really like the Flashes.

I wanna watch the Kent play at the Field House.

This will be the case each year for me.

Freeman must be something behind closed doors. To get 0 minutes in a game where we're as depleted as we are.

Davis' stat line was pretty crazy tonight. 20, 5, 8, and 4 steals. He's become a very good player.

You could build a pretty good MAC squad out of the guys in street clothes on the end of our bench. Moss, Payton, Gillespie, Safford, and Bass could be a starting 5.

Interesting points in the last few posts:

* Davis has become an excellent player. I would venture to guess 2nd team All-MAC.
* Freeman getting 0 minutes is perplexing.
* Freakin Akron.

I think the above post is the epilogue to this game and this season. Can't remember a Kent team snake-bit by so many injuries. The good thing is potentially 4 of the five above return, and three of the five (Moss, Gillespie, Safford) are pretty much a lock. The big ??? going into next season is Kent really doesn't know what it truly has in Moss and Gillespie. Both have shown positive signs, but neither has put together a string of 3-4-5 games of solid play/production.

I actually think Moss can/will be a better more consistent Gio, but not as many assists. Gillespie will at least be a lot like Hornbeak - a plus rebounder - yet still have ??? about his offense. Yes, Kent needs at least 1, maybe 2 point guards. But I still think there is a need for a juco/transfer post player with some low-block skills. But good luck finding one if they don't already have one on the hook.

Freeman has been a transfer bust ... pure and simple. He will be addition by subtraction.

Well, the good news is we don't have to see another loss to Akron, and if we DO it will mean they won two tournament games. This has been a lousy year for football and men's basketball. The worst combined in quite some time.

Anyone know how likely it is that we can get an injury redshirt for Gillespie? If he can't, it will be a real shame that he only has two years left. Probably should've been redshirted last year then loses almost the entire year to an injury this year.
