They've only made the tournament 1 time this century. They should come in and instantly be a top 3-4 program in the MAC. The MAC is a downgrade in conference, but probably gives them an easier path to make the tournament.

The MAC is a top heavy conference and they'll find competition at the top to go along with easy wins at the bottom.

That would still keep the pods fairly regional for everyone involved.

Delaware does not have good basketball and has already committed to CUSA.

A10 had a 75/25 money split where 75% of the unit income goes to the earning school and 25% unit income was split by 15 remaining schools. Only a good deal if you are VCU or St. Bonaventure.

MAC is 33/33/33 split. 33 percent to those who earn the unit, 33 percent based on conference performance and then 33 percent evenly. Thus in the MAC system there is value in finishing in the Top 4 or 5 every year even if you don't earn the bid. UMass will actually earn more unit money in the MAC than what they would have in the A10.

Thank you all! Was shocked that UMass pulled the trigger before the end of the season. Did not seriously consider we were still in play as did not see a #14. Thought it had to be those other guys.

I'm not so sure about this (right now).

1) UMass as 13th gives the MAC leverage but what if its also a hedge against schools leaving in the future with additional NIL costs?

2) Could the AAC blow up or end up inviting more schools? Last time around after Army it was App State they were looking at because they already have Charlotte and ECU. That could open a spot in the SBC for WKU, MT, FIU or even Delaware.

3) CUSA if raided that punch a hole in their TV deal and the MAC could pick over whomever is left over (WKU, MT, FIU or UDel).

I'm not sure if WKU is an immediate add situation like the MAC felt it was with all sport UMass. Maybe they get on board as a 15th with restructured pods.
