Kent State @ Ohio University
The Golden Flashes are on the road again. This week's destination is the Convocation Center in Athens. Located on what the Bobcat faithful refer to as the Athletic Mall, the Convo is home to several of OU's athletic teams. It also houses several academic offices and includes a residence hall.

Waiting for KSU's arrival will be the 13-12, 7-5 Bobcats. After beating the Flashes about a month ago at the MAC Center, OU has gone 3-1 in MAC Play and finds themselves in the middle of what is becoming a quite a logjam in the conference standings. As I type, the MAC Standings look like this....

Akron 11-1 (@ Toledo)
Toledo 10-2 (vs. Arkon)
CMU 9-3 (vs. BG)
BG 7-5 (@ CMU)
OU 7-5 (vs. Kent State)
Miami 6-6 (@ WMU)
Kent State 6-6 (@ Ohio)
WMU 5-7 (vs. Miami)

Ball State 4-8 (@ NIU)
EMU 3-9 (@ Buffalo)
NIU 3-9 (vs. Ball State)
Buffalo 1-93 (vs. EMU)

The Golden Flashes are in an interesting spot. The fact is, Ohio and BG are within striking distance. Especially when you consider that KSU could walk out of the Convo even with the Bobcats. I'm back on the wagon...no, not the bandwagon. I never left. The gambling wagon baby!!

Ohio University 73
VCD leaves with that cool chain hanging around his neck!

GO FLASHES!

Two things:

Very good ballgame so far. Kent State seems to be ready to play and going hard.

Rob Polinsky does a fantastic job calling basketball. He pairs well with a fire and some bourbon.

In spite of Bass, we're playing a great game. Just me or is his attitude above playing hard and making smart plays. The smug look is cool and all but you have to be able to read situations and make better decisions. Should have passed to Sullinger there rather than take that weak layup attempt. Why Bass over Ty Freeman?

They called that foul on Payton but just allowed worse several times down the other side.

The under the hoop angle looked like nothing at all, which is where he was. Would have been a great no call.

Exactly, they went over the top several times in the past few minutes but they call that ticky tack foul and negate the key bucket?

The refs suck, but this team has no desire. I just hope we don't get slotted at #8 and get pounced by Akron in the first round.

Tough one. Looking forward to Friday at James A Rhodes.

I don’t know Alpha. I feel like this team is figuring it out. Tonight wasn’t terrible.
Go Flashes!

I just don't see it. Ohio is not as bad as NIU, but they're still not good. We couldn't muster 61 points. A lot of missed shots. Key missed rebounds. We lost the handle after the under 4 TO.

RE: Kent State @ Ohio University
We're playing better. Our defense has turned around. Hornbeak was a big factor tonight. We let a W off the hook tonight. And that loose ball foul on Payton at the end was quite bad and changed the complexion of the end significantly. Bad calls happen at the end of close games in Athens. Away teams have known that forever.

Now we gotta battle to make the tournament with 3 of our 5 remaining games being against the top 3 teams in the conference. This was a really important game and we pissed it away with bad offense down the stretch.

I don’t have a problem with the effort and desire of this team. The team lacks a go-to leader and generally just aren’t quite good enough offensively. They were the better team tonight for most of the game, just not in the last five minutes. But I think they played hard throughout, just didn’t play well enough for a key stretch near the end.

Game was close there and we let it slip away by forcing bad shots, especially the drives.

Can’t blame this one on refs. 31.7% from field won’t win you many games. Many shots just thrown up as prayers
Can’t put my finger on it but this team is just out of sync. Leadership on the court seems to be lacking. We really miss Malique Jacobs who was glue last year.

A key moment in this game was when we were up 5 mid way through the second half, Payton got fouled and split the pair, then we got a steal and Payton got fouled and missed the pair. We could've been sitting up 9 and the screws would be tightening on OU. Instead we were up 6, they hit a 3 and we were immediately back to a one possession lead.
