Fun to look at, but at Southern Miss rarely are those the ones that become the stars.

I'll take the two star with a major chip on his shoulder every time. Guy with something to prove.

I guess this means we’ll lose all our games.

If they play to their level, their future will be at a higher paying P2 school.
I’m past getting hyped over 18 yo kids who are annual players shifting to the highest bidders.

Unless I'm reading something wrong Nasir Smith isn't GS's 247 composite highest rated. But yea who cares.

RE: Highest Rated Recruit for Every Sun Belt Program 2024
I'd love to see the lists from 2 or 3 years ago. Got a hunch many of those dudes never saw playing time. In the Sun Belt, coaching and having an established culture are more important than star ratings. The jimmies and joes matter, but not having the right star ratings doesn't mean you don't have the right jimmies and the right joes.

None of it matters. If the dude becomes a star in our conference he is leaving for more NIL.

"composite rating"
"3 Star"
"4 star"
None of that matters to me. The best indicator IMO is "other offers".
The best kid we signed with the best "other offers" was:
Caleb Moore 6'3 250 DL. Offers from Alabama, LSU, Texas, Ole Miss, TAMU, Louisville, Mississippi State. He's only rated a 3 star FWIW.

We are super excited about this guy. Had LSU and Georgia offers amongst about everybody else as well. Sometimes skill players that level come, but rarely 6’5 300+ DT’s.

Those are listed offers. Do you really believe all of those offers were signable?

Absolutely not. Some of them may have been early on, but then they got a commit from that position and that offer was no longer there. Most likely, those were early offers to try to get him to come to a summer camp to get a better look at him.
At the very least, those teams were somewhat interested. But anybody that believes that any of us signing players that have that kind of an actual offer list are delusional. Once in a blue moon, you might have a kid that grew up as a die hard fan of your school that you can get to campus, but even then, it's tough to sign them over the allure that those big money programs can offer.

I would take a big OL or DL over a little fast dude any day. The lines are what control the games.

I have no idea what a "signable" offer is...all I know is that if a kid is offered a scholarship (regardless of when that offer happened), that offer is a much better indicator and tells me a lot more about the quality of athlete he is IMO than some arbitrary composite rating or # of stars he has by his name. I could care less if the offer still stands as of February 15, 2024. Should mean very little. If he was offered by Alabama or Texas or LSU then he's pretty good.
Alabama and Texas and LSU etc. don't offer scholarships to kids JUST to get them to come visit lol. That's not how it works. If they just wanted to see them in person, they'd just invite the kid.

Yes they do offer 'scholarships' as an incentive to see them in camps. This is a norm in the recruiting game. Those scholarships are very rarely 'committable offers'. That has basically turned into the "we're interested in you" part of recruiting and will get a mention on social media, etc. The fact that those schools desire to see him in person is a big plus.
