Remember when I said this 2 years ago? Congrats JMU. You were EVEN better, and more ahead of schedule, than I thought you would be!

Y'all got it together over there.

Certainly among the elite of our fine conference. Glad to have them as mates. I think they are going to be among our biggest rivals along with Appalachian State…with ZERO disrespect intended for any other team.

I love having James Madison with us and they haven't missed a beat since joining! Their fans can bring lots of attitude but they back it up with competitive teams that crush it in conference, downright dominating at times. CCU came from the Big South, for crying out loud, where we played teams that didn't have much support at all and that's been one of the many positives about Sun Belt affiliation, we're alongside peer universities now that expect to win on a national level so I hope the Dukes give the Blue Devils hell tomorrow night in Brooklyn...

RE: JMU was who I thought they were.
Coastal's president had some high praise for JMU's campus and facilities and how they are really forcing everyone to up their games since joining. He acknowledged and referenced them a couple of times in a recent overview of Coastal's new master plan.

He started talking about them at the 28:48 mark and again around the 35:46 mark regarding their top notch basketball facility which happens to be very relevant in terms of their success over the last few years.

I admit it is refreshing to hear Coastal's admin speak to anything basketball related and I do have to credit JMUs facilities basically embarrassing them a bit to credit that.

Regardless of how you personally feel about them, they are a smart add that I think will make the league better overall over a span and that was the intention for everyone brought in.

Absolutely, as much I hated them taking us to the woodshed in football, they’ve absolutely raised the standard of what’s acceptable in football

$1200 a semester in student fees for athletics helps.

This gets brought up like once a year for some reason. We are one of the cheapest D1 schools in the state of Virginia to attend. Virginia has a law that requires full transparency for breakdown of fees so we can’t camouflage fees like schools in other states can

Add marching and pep bands to athletic budget, its $3,320/yr in requried fees.

I admit… I underrated JMU when the four of us newbies joined the conference. I knew they had been successful—even dominant—at the FCS level, but I really had no idea of the strength of their entire athletics department. Kudos, Dukes. Keep rocking on. Proud to be conference mates, and very glad the transitional tag will be removed from you all this football season.

By Virginia law JMU has to itemize athletics and wrap them under student fees. Most of your schools bury (hide) many of the same costs within tuition. If it makes you feel better paying $200 a night for a hotel and getting free wifi and breakfast, vs $150 a night but wifi is $20 a night and breakfast $30 then great. But VA law doesn’t give JMU a choice on how to present its bill. JMU is NOT charging students a thousand dollars more per year for athletics than any other SBC school.

That’s a continual nonsense “gotcha point”.
It’s about how the “cost of attendance” is allocated and how the accountants put it on paper.

JMU costs about 400 bucks more or less than attending GMU per YEAR.

I’ve paid for both simultaneously.
Find a better excuse fr JMU being top of the SBC.

Tired. Very tired

I'm hoping that Coastal and others in the SBC embarrassing us in baseball similarly motivates JMU to step it up there. The SBC move has been such a dream come true that so many of us have been waiting a long time for. I don't think many JMU fans, at least the hardcore ones like on this board, doubted we'd be successful but how successful and how quickly has still been incredible. Across so many sports too.

Maybe basketball still would've had similar growth in the CAA, but football sure as hell didn't have the room to grow that we have now. And I think the success and exposure in football has helped elevate other sports too, plus just how much it means to be playing peers who you care about along with more nationally recognizable names.

Thank you for sharing that. It was an interesting watch. My family vacations just up the road in Calabash regularly, so we’ve made a few trips through Conway the past few years since joining the SBC. Will be fun to watch the campus change shape as these projects come to reality.

The Atlantic Union Bank Center is awesome.

Best in state ( 0k, UVA has the edge).

JMU did a good job of selling this build as a needed academic building that happens to be a great basketball coliseum.

It gets used for everything
