Kent State @ The University at Buffalo
The Golden Flashes hit the road, this time heading east to Alumni Arena on the campus of the University at Buffalo. Waiting for their arrival will be the 2-18 Buffalo Bulls. Although the Golden Flashes are currently on the edge of a berth in the Mid American Conference Tournament, a wise man once said...

The game will be on CBS Sports. Akron and Toledo tip at 9:00pm on ESPN2. I’ve got a nice little Friday evening planned.

There was a point in the season where I wondered why Bass didn't play more. I'm right there with yo now. On both ends of the floor.

What do you guys think is the time table for Buffalo being back to being a force in basketball? Tonight was so strange. No disrespect but they as God awful as their record would suggest. Do we see them sticking with this coach? Good resume, but is this type of season enough to stick with him?

Buffalo is quite bad. But we did to a bad team what a good team should do. For one night we looked like a good team again. I really think it's mental with this team. Hopefully taking Buffalo to the woodshed will help get their heads on right. Awesome night for Gio. 17 pts, 10 asts, 6 reb, 3 stl. I've been thinking for a while that he's the only guy that can get this team fixed. He's the only guard that can handle aggressive on ball defense and still get us into our offense. So, in my opinion, either he flips a switch into Senior mode or we probably continue to be up and down.

I haven't followed them closely enough to give a good answer, but it seems like their program has fallen off a cliff so the coach has to be in the crosshairs. With the portal you can turn a roster around much quicker now a days. I'll say they looked like a poorly coached team tonight. That was the most goaltends I've seen all season and a couple of them were down right stupid. Smacking the ball well after it was off the backboard.

I haven’t seen that many goal tends since Patrick Ewing at G-Town. And it’s not like they were otherwise aggressive around the glass, they got crushed on the boards (17-4 1st half & 46-22 overall).

He is in his 1st year and over half the team left after Whitesell got canned. Total rebuild, and yes they are as bad as their record. Some of the Buf players have no business being on a D1 bball team

It's, unfortunately, very easy for a basketball program, especially a mid-major one, to collapse. It's a little more difficult to build back up. The current transfer rules/portal make it both easier to collapse and easier to build back up. That is why it is a real accomplishment for Kent State to have not had an overall losing record since 1997/98. I'm pretty sure no MAC team has gone longer. I know Akron, Buffalo and Toledo haven't. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that. This could possibly be a losing season, but is clearly not a total collapse - at least not yet.

Turnovers, poor shot selection and generally out of control play. Bikelja will not do a lot of those things.
Bass is a good athlete but is much less of a player than I expected. Him being sellected as FOY shows how down the MAC is these days.

I went back and checked their scores in MAC games. Since winning the opener at CMU, then playing competitive in their second game (WMU) Buffalo has since lost every game by double figures and most by 15 points or more. Incredible.
Ten years ago this would be considered a rebuilding year, but with the portal and NCAA rules on immediate eligibility, one would think UB will have a hard time keeping what good players they do have.
Just does not look good for the Bulls.
